I am asking for your Opinion on two reels, I have a choice of getting 2 Okuma Induron IDx-400LX reels, or 2 Record 61 reels..... I have never tried either one and I was just hoping for some feedback on them if you are familiar with them... I will use them for casting mostly, maybe troll once in a while.....Are the line out alarms loud? thats what I need a loud reel. thanks Henry

Posts: 999 | Im on my third record 60, the first one lasted a day, the second one two weeks, the third one the rest of the year. I later found out the first ones I had were greased and not oiled so I think that made a huge difference. This year I am going to Okuma as well. Mr Musky

I was using the Records as well and had to send them back for the a/r bearings going out and the clutch arms. They don't do well ripping dawgs or cranks for very long. I did like them when they were working though. I used the Induron last year just as hard and never had an issue. The cost is a little less than the Records but the quality was much better. I just ordered 2 more Indurons if that gives you an idea if I like them.

Posts: 271 Location: davis,IL | Based on all your good reviews I just ordered a 400dlx from Rollie & Helens. I hope to recieve it next week ( now if the ice would only melt). I've used ABU's for years and they are O.K. but lack some of the spool controls (the new ones finally have it). I also use Quantum Cabo's and like them for a low profile reel, just wanted one big round one (for the bigger stuff).

Posts: 27 | What about the Induron 400 compared to the Abu 7000i which has a brass bushing instead of bearings like the other 7000's? From the specs I see the 400 is 5.1 to 1 at 13.1 oz, where the 7000i is 4.1 to 1 at 21oz which would make it better to crank in DCGs. is the extra weight worth the cranking power? Which reel holds up better? Does the 400 come with a power handle?

Posts: 2894 Location: Yahara River Chain | I have used both 400LX and the Record 61. I had to send the Record 61 back twice and then asked them to send me a 7001 instead and they did. The 400LX is by far smoother than the Abu. One word of caution that I had with mine is that the 400LX is so smooth that the power handle may engage the spool on a hard cast. I'm not sure if Mark got the bugs worked out of that issue or not. I have since place the twin paddle handle back on my reels. Please note that these are "true" right handed reels with the crank on the left side - like on your spinning reel. Edited by muskie! nut 3/31/2008 10:06 PM

Posts: 13 | I haven't had a problem with the Induron's power handle falling and engaging the reel on the cast, wonder if it has something to do with muskie! nut's casting technique? Bought 2 Indurons 3-4 months ago, installed the power handles (Thanks again Mark!) and they performed flawlessly on several trips, I'm pretty impressed with them. Haven't used a Record, but the Indurons and much better than the older Abu's I have.

Posts: 1504 Location: Oregon | Induron..........I have two of them now and thus far they have been solid. I have had probably 10 ABU's over the years and they are fine for light use but if you really want something tough I would look at something else. RM Edited by RiverMan 4/1/2008 3:15 PM

Posts: 999 | Whats the story again with the true right hand reels being on the left side? Anybody want to chime in? Do you order a left hand if your a right handed reeler? or Vice Versa? Mr Musky

Posts: 2894 Location: Yahara River Chain | Ask the clerk at a store for a right handed spinning reel. Then ask him for a right handed baitcasting reel. Please explain to me why the cranks are on different sides? This makes no sense! There is NOT an advantage to be switching hands while using a baitcaster.

I cast with my right hand for spinning and cast with my left hand for baitcast...no need to switch the rod from hand to hand......

Thanks Guys, I got the Okuma reels already and tried them out yesterday. They are Great ,Honestly these are just as smooth as anything out there and cast great. I actually like the drag system better that the shimano 400TE's not as Finicky to set. Spent 10 hours casting these reels and could not find one flaw. I am ordering more this week for my self. Thanks Mike
