Posts: 479 Location: Eden Prairie & Pine Island | I don't personally like them, but are you looking for somethng like the hooks on a Musky Innovation's Pounder? Short shanks 8/0...I know Thornes has them too, but not a a discount. I may be able to get you a dozen or so that I have laying around....

Posts: 1906 Location: Oconto Falls, WI | Mike, as mentioned the Musky Innovations are the only I know of. However, I heard they are too soft of a hook. I bought 25 of them for my rubber baits, and haven't had an issue yet. One did turn into a pretzel, but I think that was from the fish thrashing in the net.

Posts: 1106 Location: Muskegon Michigan | Hi Travis, I need the shorter shanks to keep the hooks off the top of the lure. I want to use splitrings and with the 6/0 3551 mustads they hang up on the top of the lure and cause too much hook wear on the sides of the bait. Double hooks like the loke runs is one option and using open eye and no split rings is another option or settling for the 5/0 VMC is another. Ill have to try these hooks from Musky Innovations before I decide if they are too soft. I could have them heat treated but that would be expensive. There is just so few companies making these hooks. Posts: 1906 Location: Oconto Falls, WI | I wouldn't consider the no split ring option. Most guys would cut those hooks off, then add a split ring and a new hook. Why put hooks on it at all if this was the case. As a consumer it is frustrating to me everytime I have to do this. Split rings help reduce the leverage the fish can get for throwing the hooks.

Posts: 1106 Location: Muskegon Michigan | Loke has been selling his baits for 50 years without splitrings on the two belly hooks. They just snap on the hook hanger. No need to cut them off if you want to split ring them. I have experimented with the leverage theory and frankly cant tell the difference with the lokes, doubles versus split ringed trebles. The difference is the loose trebles eat the sides of the bait up in short order. Trolling is terrible on lures where the hooks rub on the sides. We t-bone our 3551's like on your Deepthreats but that only works on a high sided bait . This new lure is a flat tailed bait like the Loke. The problem is the hooks get stuck up on top of the lure if they are both long shanked and splitringed. This is why I am at this predicament. The lure runs great and has tremendous wander. But I lack a hook that matches its characteristics. Loke just used the big doubles and I have caught tons of fish on them. I just like the trebles better(one more hook prong you know?) A t-boned 6/0 short shanked wide bend on a #5 triple splitring Well anyway Mustad is sending me some samples of hooks not listed in the USA. I may find the hook I need in this sample box. Thanks a ton you guys. If anyone sees a 6 or 7/0 short shank 4x hook email me at [email protected] Take care , Kingfisher

Posts: 179 Location: Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan | Have you looked into the in-line series from VMC? They have a model out that I have been using on my Musky Rockets and they do keep hook rash to a minimum. they are VMC #8686 3X Strong in-line. I got them in bulk from their manufacturer's catalog. They go up to 5/0. http://www.vmcpeche.com/CATALOGUE/8686.htm Rod

Posts: 1106 Location: Muskegon Michigan | Yes I have seen them and probably will end up using them. I want a 6/0 but a 5/0 will do especilly if they are wide bend. Thanks a ton , Kingfisher
