Location: Ogden, Ut		I keeping with the 'start them early' theme, Dane caught and released his first muskie today shortly after noon. It wasn't huge by any means (27"), but for a 3 year-old, it was a plenty big fight. I don't think he's nearly as proud as I am though.

* sorry about the waterspots on the pic, the sun was too bright for a good preview, and he wanted to get the fish back in the water.

I love it.
My daughter started using a baitcaster at 8, but could throw the lure 2X farther on the dock or in the backyard. She was always a little nervous when we got in the boat. She was worried about hooking me or anything else in the boat or doing something wrong, I'm glad that she's over it. Now at 11, she's 5'2" and 125# and can even change her own lures. That transition happened from last year to this one. It's gone from just taking her along, to actually having a fishing partner. She's asking questions about hook setting and what to do if I hook a fish and what to do with the net....it's great.
Too bad her first love, hockey, will be in full swing during teachers conventions or she'd be fishing with me in October.
I love all of the different stages of fishing that they go through, and I hope that they don't stop....even after she gives me my Viking funeral.
Keep them in the boat, and you won't wonder where they are.

Location: Hayward, WI		Great picture, but did you have to use the small size of the angler to inflate the size of the fish? Come on, anybody can see that thing is no more than 26. 1/4. Next thing you'll try telling us it had a 7 inch girth.

Just kidding. I've been in love with fishing since I was 3 years old also. I'm sure we all agree it's a great thing to get into at an early age.

P.S. I noticed you also hang your lures for easy access.. I do the same but instead of hanging them in the carpet, i put a piece of house insulation ( looks like pink styrofoam) in the boat to hang my lures, it holds them really well and their easy to get off.
