Location: Des Moines IA | RUMBLEFISH and myself fish it quite a bit,. We used to think there weren't many ski's in there. Then Jeremy raised like a 42 or a 43, in a deep bend, then caught a 35 right out in front of the launch. Might have to actually try and fish it. We fish farther north though, Elgin up through West Dundee into the Carpentersville area ..... Topwater shallow cranks, and blades would be my guess. Dawgs in the deep current maybe? |

Location: Minneapolis, MN | Brandon the river is a gem for the people who know how to fish it and they are unlikely to tell you exactly where to go. I would suggest you start with mapquest. Look for areas where the river narrows and turns around islands and bends. The current will carve deep holes around the islands and inside turns of the bends. The fish will concentrate on these deeper holes this time of year. |

| If you think about how long he fox river is, there really isnt that many fish in it. Each section of the river(most anyways) has very few deep holes. Each deep water section, with the exception of a few, may only hold one, two, or three fish. I also take into consideration the amount I have seen kept, killed, and heared about them being kept or killed. There def. isn't as many as there was. The guys that target them rarely get 15 from the fox a year.
I wrote an article in last years midwest outdoors (aug. issue) on river fishing since i have fished quite a few rivers for muskies with good success. I wrote one on coldwater river fishing that is either being published in march or april. Both articles have some good lure selections. If you dont find the articles, to make a long story short, bait selection is 10 percent important. I think its more right place, right time. Find where these fish are and pound the heck out of the area. I use a wide variety of lures(jakes, grandmas, bagley's, bucktails, bulldawgs, reefhawgs, bass jerk baits, etc. I have some photos on www.reelfisherman.com of muskies caught from rivers. There is a good population of muskies in the fox, but def. not as many as there use to be. |

| you have to keep in mind that the fish just dont keep on going downstream if they go over the first dam. there could be a ton of fish under mchenry...i wouldnt know... but i do know they dont just go dam hoping. i know a guy that has caught the same exact fish from the same stretch of river for the last 4 years, and after the huge flood a couple years ago, the fish was still in that same stretch. |

Location: oswego, il | Muskies have been in the river for decades. I know od a 48 caught in the late 70's by a kid in my h.s. Some people say the river has always had a small population, some people have said that the fox chain has been stocked since the early 70's. For sure lake holiday has had them since then and stocked fish in the river can come from lake holiday, shabbona and the fox chain. That's a very wide area of distribution when you see where they would enter the river. |

Location: Des Plaines, IL | There is an article in The Outdoor Notebook this month about a muskie being caught west of Yorkville on a BullDawg. I have put the Fox River on my list of water to be fished this year.

| i have had some bad luck this year. granted i have caught 3, i have lost a few others as well including a 45"plus  plastic jerkbaits are the way to go early on.
