Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | I still prefer monofilament for jigs, because it's more forgiving at the strike and I miss fewer fish hitting them too hard and too soon. I use 17# which does a great job on the heavy spinning gear. Anyone else using mono, or am I alone here?

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Yes, you are. The 1 to 3 ounce plastics run beautifully on spinning gear, and allow REALLY fast bursts of speed on the retrieve. The hookset on a single hook creature or other soft plastic is much better with a spinning rod, too. |

Location: oswego, il | I sure do, I use it to put my rubber skirts together for my spinners! Can use more material and it won't melt away like a rubberband!
Steve, ever tried fireline on the spinning reel? My smaller spinning versions have it and it works great for that. |

Location: Eau Claire, WI | I still use 17-20# mono with floro leader for light twitch baits and small rubber baits. And I use 20-25# mono on my trolling rods/reels, which are basically dowrigger rods designed for Salmon, Diawa Heartland series I believe. |

Location: Ogden, Ut | I do a similar thing for my jigging setup. I have been using a Stren product - Extra Strength, I believe. It's 17 lb. diameter but 34 (or 36?) lb. test. It seems to be a good compromise for me as it's a lot more forgiving (stretch) than superlines, but somewhat less than 'regular' monofilaments. I still go w/ a 65lb. sevenstrand leader though.

Location: Racine, Wi | I run it on my trolling rods. 17 and 25 lb. Well, it's mono, and floro something or other. (I forget what the company calls it) Works awesome, and gets the baits a bit deeper. |

Location: Chicago, Beverly | Used to use Mono for some Jerkbaits I had that had a wild action by using mono.. but it get to the point that I only would use that particular bait on it and none other.. Also found that using mono for sucker fishing seemed to work pretty good.. Will have to give the mono a shot on my spinning rig. |

Very good line as far as durability and low stretch.
Gets the job done for me. Not a true mono but close. |

| Whats the biggest fish you've battled on 17# pound plus spinning gear? I remember loosing alot of fish when I first started using spinning gear with 18 pound mono. I'm intrested though since it would be alot easier working slow presentations.

Location: Sheboygan Falls, WI | If you use mono, you will want to take a look at the new Stren Dura Tuf. This stuff is the most abrassion resistent line that I have ever seen. The knot strength is incredible as well. It also won the "New Line" award at the ICAST show in July which says a lot about the line if you know what this show is all about. Dura Tuf is amazing stuff; it is availble in up to 30lb test. |
