Posts: 1415 Location: Brighton CO. | There's a satisfaction with catching fish on homemade lures. I've made a bunch of bucktails or rebuilt some old Bucktails and have more then what I need. Since I started this I've yet to take them back on a trip to Wisconsin, Minnesota or Canada. And this year I will finally get back to Wisconsin in late October. (not sure how many Bucktails will see the water at that time of year.) Years ago I bought a cheap wire bender from Cabela's and I got what I paid for. Then my dad bought a way better one and my nephew started making leaders. (then I started) I don't trust myself to make flouro or cable. I've added weight Suick's and Bobbies for years (buy a unweighted modal for cheap) then add weight because that's what I really wanted. I've also added spinners to the back of Bobbies and made some thing to add trailers on lures too. I've repaired lures that had simple paint jobs (a simple spray can and then a clear coat). I did buy my dad a Air brush and he never used it. (he has since passed on) I should build a paint booth and buy a book on how to use it. I don't want to be in the lure business want to make what I can't buy or improve on things I can buy.

Posts: 105 Location: Alberta Canada | Um it might be easier to list what I don’t make lure wise lol I like to fish jerk baits and pull style baits so spend lots of focus there. I also build cranks, trolling plugs, tail spins, the odd top water, bucktails/inline spinners, flies, little bit of soft plastics and really whatever crosses my mind I just make stuff

Posts: 761 | I'm trying to figure out how to convert some of my bass lures over to muskies. Adding slightly larger, stronger hooks, split rings etc. Adding larger plastic trailers. Using tinsel for added flash. That kinda stuff. Kdawg

I have been making my own leaders for about the last 5 years. I don’t make lures but I do modify them occasionally.

"Ooh, my hair's getting good in the back." Love that album. Good choice for hook sharpening. What's the ugliest part of YOUR body?

Location: Athens, Ohio | I have a place on my face where weasels ripped my flesh... I did do a bit of inventing. One of my favorite Treats baits for broken on a cast. I thought long & hard on how to fix. Buddy of mine glued it back together, then I tooks some 175 lb test wire and wired the two eye hooks together. Hope it holds. m Edited by mikie 3/12/2023 9:58 AM

Posts: 157 Location: West Central WI | I make a few rubber baits from "blanks" I get from a tackle shop in Virginia Beach while out there for the winter. They look similar to and act a lot like a Swimmin' Dog or a Posseidon. I do a little surgery on the plastic, add a through wire attached a long-shanked jig head I get at the same shop and attach a treble hook where the wire exits the bottom. I keep some just like that and use as a straight retrieve or jerk/twitch. I made some spinning harnesses and add to a couple others so the spinner leads the way on a straight retrieve. I use jig heads either 1 or 2 oz, depending on the depth I want the bait to work. I mod other baits. Four years ago, I took a rod-building course and started making my own muskie rods. My goal is to catch a 50+ on my own rod and my own bait for a "hat trick." Came close once but so far, my biggest thrill was catching a 50-3/4" as the first muskie I caught on the first rod I ever made.

Posts: 419 Location: MN | Bucktails, leaders, sucker rigs, some accessories like blade attachments. I'm really only interested in building it if I can't get it commercially or I can save a reasonable amount of money relative to the time investment. The bucktails I build are either very heavy or very light, at least compared to the commercially available stuff.

Posts: 187 | I've made a few spybaits, actually hooked a fish on my first cast. Caught me completely off guard and lost it lol. It's definitely nice to give them something different to look at.

Than of all manufacturers Daiwa spits one out for a price I'm not willing to pay em

Posts: 62 | Rods, bucktails, leaders, I hope to do some wood baits this year, I also created a few Ambassadeur "6000D's", I don't know why ABU never made any. Tim
