Posts: 20281 Location: oswego, il | Sorry Alan but how can anybody be a cubs fan. It's like having an alcoholic in the family, always letting you down. It's a dividend payer to the stockholders, they will never go after great players. Any success they have is through the overachievment or improvment in what they have. Success is incidental. As long as they play in wrigley field, it matters not what they put out there, the stock holders will be paid. They sure as heck don't want to lose that in players saleries. Remeber 84 and remember Bill Buckner? I wonder about them chokes, were they real? Edited by ToddM 9/28/2003 12:29 AM

Posts: 35 Location: Cudahy, WI | You're welcome.....and you can have them! Bring on college hockey!!!! Kids playing for the love of the game. The Badgers have a little face off scrimmage and pigroast to start the year next weekend on my birthday. You get to watch the scrimmage and then spend time with the players and their families afterward. Let's see the pro boys do that. Good luck Cubbies......now what can we do to help out the Bears? We'll find out Monday.

Posts: 3930 | Well, I would'nd be a true fan if I didn't root for the Redbirds (my home town (20 years ago!) St. Louis Cardinals). 3.5 games back as of yesterday, don't know if they can pull it out. Go Redbirds!! You know what? If the weather is right, I can listen to a Cardinal home game broadcast from KMOX in St. Louis while camping way the hell up on Lake Superior. Bravo to the Cubbies for their season's success, by the way. And a football note for PappaJoe - Guess folks weren't praying hard enough before the Michigan vs. Nortre Dame game. Hee hee hee!

Posts: 544 Location: Alsip, Il | Todd M., you sound like a Sox fan!!!! Hey, I guess I am Cubs fan because when I would come home from school they would be on TV (good brainwashing). I was hoping for an all Chicago world series, but the Sox forgot to bring their A-game and emotion against the Twins. Al

Posts: 20281 Location: oswego, il | Alan, I used to goto cubs games, like you, watched them after school every day and played baseball with the neiborhood kids and we pretended to be somebody on the team. Problem is they play in wrigley field. It will always draw a crowd and the team will always make a good profit. Too many good players and big salaries will get in the way of that. They have never gone after a big name player, anything they have acheived has come from developement and overachievment as I stated above. Sosa came in a trade, the sox did not want him. Wood came from college. If the neiborhood would have went to hell like it did by comisky, things would be different. The worste thing that can happen to you around wrigley is dropping your keys walking to and from the stadium.
