I am wanting to add a couple of these baits to the arsenal and was thinking an 8" jointed and a 10" straight model. Any thoughts or personal experiences with these baits would be great. I know lots of folks out east troll these lures, but I will be casting them in NW Ontario. Thanks

I think ziggies were made for trolling and don't know how well they would do for a casting lure. IMO there are lots of better options for casting.

Do you like the action of the 10" model? Any success on it? Thanks for the input.

They make a model with a wider lip. I liked the action with the bigger lip better for casting. Just ask for it when you order from them.
I have caught a few on them casting 6", 8" and 10" I liked the straights for casting better than the jointed also but probably put more time in the straights. A friend of mine that Charters on Lake St. Clair (Matt "Catfish Firestein) casts the 10" a fair amount. I have netted several 45"-49" fish for him when he was casting them. He's the one that got me using them. Not many people I know cast them so its something the fish don't see. They are great lures. Have caught quite a few trolling on them also up to 52"

the 10" works great for trolling but am really not a fan of the open double hooks on it. i switch mine out to trebles and split rings. the bait gets rashed but i don't loose any fish because the hook just opens. i have more than one buddy that its happened too.

Ziggies are huge here on St. Clair. Hands down, my favorite is a 6" solid body. 8" just don't run and wonder as much. Usually, I'm the guy that throws ridiculously huge baits, big bait = big fish, but not the case for Ziggies. And I cast for them 95% of the time.

Maybe ill get a 6" instead of an 8". Do you throw the 10" at all?

6" should be a good choice. As stated very effective here on Lake St. Clair anyway. My first order of the year of 40 6" should be completed any day now. Ziggie paints to order so check out his online catalog of colors. I know of one guide that throws 10" with success. Request the heavy saltwater belly hooks. I think they might be standard now on the 10". The certified lake record muskie of 48.5# was caught on a 10" Ziggie.

I hate telling people what to do, as if I am an expert, but I've went through quite a few Ziggies, and the ONLY ones I buy now are 6" solid bodies. Anything natural, like Gar Pike color, Brown Bass, or St. John are what works best for me.

I use Ziggies A LOT. And I am also on their prostaff and work the shows for them. With that in mind I get a lot of feedback from other anglers as to how they use them. They are fantastic for trolling and I fish all over the Midwest. I have not bee to Canada lately other than Lake St Clair where they have a great reputation. A few people do cast them. The 6" and 10" are the most popular models. The straights walk out more than the jointed and the jointed dig a little harder than the straights. For LSC the 10's don't get used much until October by most. I personally use the 10's everywhere, first out of my tackle box. Feel free to email or PM me if you need some specific information.

You will not be disappointed with a Ziggie.

Thanks and good luck.

You say you have older 10's. He played around with the lips maybe 6-8 years ago. Went to a larger lip. The side of the lip should splay out. On the older lips the sides were close to parallel. The 6" hunts more aggressive than the 10"

If you contact Ziggie he will send you new lips.
