Posts: 410 Location: Wakefield, MI | Well after looking for about 5 years, me and my dad finally got an Esox Magnum yesterday (let's just say we had a very good day at an auction). Got a couple of questions. The boat is a console model with a 75 hp Honda. The prop has a couple of small dingers so we will be getting a new one. What should we replace it with? I'd like to get a bigger motor but we really don't fish lakes bigger than about 1200 acres so it's not needed, and we are coming from a 25 mph boat so I'm sure this will be plenty fast for now. What should we do for a rear casting deck? Tuffy or Just Encase deck box? Can you put a seat base on a Just Encase. Do we need a transom saver? I'm sure I'll come up with more questions. Posts: 410 Location: Wakefield, MI | Boat is a 1999, motor is 2005. Everything feels solid, needs a good cleaning and some new carpet this winter. All of the electronics seem to be working. Has three Lowrance fish finders (a pair of 7" and a 5"), a power drive, and an outboard mounted minn Kota. We're going to be installing our new 9" and 7" humminbirds and terrova today. What do you think it would run to put a bigger outboard on 'er? My dad also came home with a Mathews Outback, fully loaded for $150. And the rest of the truck was pretty much full of power and hand tools. Edited by milje 10/4/2017 9:32 PM

Posts: 251 | I would build or get a just in case I started with an Esox mag and they quoted me 400 ish for a rear deck. You will love the boat if I could have kept mine I would have, but an 1890 and that wouldn't fit in the garage.

Posts: 4269 Location: Ashland WI | That sounds like a very good deal. If you are handy at all, I would look at building your own back deck. It can be a fun winter project and then you can make it exactly how you want.

Posts: 410 Location: Wakefield, MI | Talked to my dad today and we we agree that building a deck is the best option. Any advice on a new prop? The one that's on it now is a kind of beat up, 13 pitch aluminum. We took it out for a quick cruise and got 29 mph on the GPS, the tach isn't working so I don't know our RPMs. Need to fix the tach but any idea what to look at for props? I'd like to get one here for next weekend. Also when trimming up we started porpoising pretty bad, anything to look for? Edited by milje 9/24/2017 6:33 PM

Posts: 20227 Location: oswego, il | The honda is a great motor. If your not fishing huge lakes you really don't need more. It should troll great too if you plan on doing that. I know someone who had a 90 on one and it would go. If you feel the need for speed, then upgrade. I would get another aluminum prop. What rpm did you get at full speed? At 29mph i wonder if you have the right prop. Get a new one and keep the dinged one for a spare. Grsat deal on the boat, hope you get it slimed soon. Edited by ToddM 9/25/2017 10:51 AM

Posts: 410 Location: Wakefield, MI | Not sure on the RPMs, the tach isn't working. My mechanic buddy is going to come over tonight after work and take a look, he is much better with electrical issues than me. The plan right now is to get a new prop and have this one fixed for a spare, there is a local guy we've had do some prop work before. Do you think a 75 HP would benefit from a stainless prop or should we go aluminum? As it is we would smoke our old boat, don't need a whole lot more speed so won't be re-powering, but I'd like to maximize what we do have. I can't believe how quiet the motor is at trolling speeds, that is gonna be nice. We gotta swap over the trolling motor and depth finders as we have better stuff on our old boat, hopefully we'll slime 'er this weekend.

Posts: 1516 | I would keep the 75 HP Honda 29mph is fast moving pretty good. I had a 90 Honda and stayed with the aluminum prop. Good idea to have a spare. In addition Honda motors are about bullet proof. I would get a transom saver though. Looks like an Iowa boat what auction were you at?

Posts: 410 Location: Wakefield, MI | Auction was in Maple, WI (just west of Ashland). To tell you the truth I'd probably crap my pants with a 135 on there. The biggest lake I fish now is 1200 acres, might start doing Lake Tomahawk but even that will take no time to cross at 30. Heck my cousins boat does about 53 mph, as soon as we got up to speed we were already across the lake we were fishing. It would be fun but really that money is better spent on other things.

Posts: 38 Location: WI | Had Bob at justncase build be an extension to my front casting deck for storage etc. Converted my esox ltd. from 12 volt to 24 volt and put the trolling motor batteries into the front ex. storage comp. Rides much better now. And I had him make me a tackle box also. Bob is great to work with and does wonderful work.
