Posts: 6 | I wanted to see some recommendations on top water reels. I like a low profile reel that has a high gear ratio to pick up line on WTD type lures plus can hold a decent amount of 80 lb braid. I really like the specs on the Curado 300 EJ but don't want the power handle. I am thinking of the new Calcutta or the Calcutta 300 E. Any other suggestions?

Posts: 558 | The curado 300e has the double paddle handle. I have the ej and it's a very comfy reel to hang on to. Great casting reel also.

Posts: 90 | I personally don't like a HS for WTD baits. I think they are THE reason for low hook up ratio. I throw WTD on nothing over 5.4/1, nice steady non erratic not to fast and the fish rarely, rarely miss em.

Posts: 190 Location: Savage, MN | I use a 300ej and like you didn't want the paddle handle. I switched the handles from that and a 400b, great fix for both reels.
