Well, I did it last night. Spent $25,000+ for a new S-10 4WD pick-up truck to pull a $1000 (used) boat. Liked the Japanese trucks, but just couldn't do it. New truck has everything!!! Anyway, I want to put a liner in the truck and am looking for advice on what to purchase. I know there's one called a Rhino liner, but am not sure if that's to way to go. Your advice is much appreciated. Also wondering what it would cost. Thanks - Tom

Tom,

Not sure what the small liners cost, mine is a full size. The full size start at around $200, I've got the better one (thicker material) and it cost around $250. I was concerned about taking out the bedliner after a few years and finding my bed all rusty, they sell a pad that goes under the liner to protect the bed of your truck for around $35, good investment.
Not sure where you are from, but shop around, there is a difference in liners.

Thanks. I live in Maryland. They have a spray on liner that looks pretty good. Since I never had a truck before, I never asked about how good they are. Thinking about going that route if they are good.

Spray in liners are great, but they are there forever. If you opt for a slide in model, be sure to get one with a skid resistant surface. The smooth surface ones are bad for carrying small loads. Too much cargo sliding around, damaging sides and tail gates.

Go with the Rhino. It may cost more. But worth it. I have only had the Rhino for two years. This is not a long time to make a final judgement. But I feel good about recommending it. JJ

this may be a dumb question (like i've never asked one before)- why would someone want to remove a 'slide-in' type liner from their truck bed?

Go w/ the spray in bed! I got the other kind...it was on the truck when I bought it 6 yrs. ago, and wish I'd had the spray on done then. If I keep the truck, I will do the spray on.

***Steve, peeps pull out the slide ins in order to haul stuff etc. They make a rack that you can slide them off on fairly easily. Seems to me it would be easier to have a second truck!

esox69- I've seen lots of liners removed, usually at resale time. May be removed for a variety of reasons; switch to a new vehicle, extremely damaged from hard use or abuse, etc. I even saw one genious who had to have his removed because of a large burn hole. He thought he could carry his hot fireplace ashes in the truck. Whatever the reasons, it's just another option.

Muskiekid,

I put a BedRug in my Powerstroke and would never use anything else. The carpet is oil, grease and dirt resistant and it keeps things from sliding all over the place. Take a look at http://www.bedrug.com/ .  I don't rave about many products, but I've really been happy with this one.

I did my own bed liner in my Ranger with the Herculiner kit, I've been very pleased with it. The texture is not quite the same as spraying in but really does a nice job.

To all you guys recommending the spray in liners..........what do you use your truck for? Do you use it for work or just pleasure?
Do you haul stuff in the back like rocks and dirt, etc. if so how does the liner stand up, no cracking or coming apart.
I have a lawn care business that helps pay the bills, I use my truck every day and am a little leary of getting a spray in do to damaging the liner. I wanted to get the spray in, but thought it would not stand up to throwing things like shovels and rakes into the back all the time.

I have a Penda Skid resistant liner for my F150, and I like it. That being said, I have heard good things about Rhino spray liners. This stuff is tough, sticks on no matter what, and wears like iron. Bad(or maybe good) part is once you spray it on, it is there forever. Ralph, I think it would hold up well to stone and the like. It will not prevent dents as well as a drop in liner. There's always a compromise, I guess.
