| I want to make a home made musky alabama rig similar the ones the guys from Uncut Angling made (see Youtube).
Was wondering if anyone has tried making them for musky to cast or jig with swimbaits like salt shakers or jr shadzillas. I was hoping for some advice to shorten the experimental phase a bit.
I was thinking piano wire in .063 or .71 diameter.
Any ideas or thoughts. Anyone tried this yet???

Location: Minnesota: where it's tough to be a sportsfan! | Been making them for two years. They work but they are a pain in the boat and to cast. In MN you can only have one hook setup so I used willow blades to give the baitfish school look added a swimbait on the long wire. I used .062 and that has held up well. If there was a muskie under the boat this is a go to Figure 8 bait, loots of clank, lots of flash, lots of action & one very sharp hook waiting to dance. We were all over them at first then no one wanted to pitch them now they are in the boat but do not always get wet. |

Gonna try the .062 wire with some smaller willow leaf blades and it shadzillas.
What made them hard to cast? Tangling or just the weight?
How much weight do I need on the front???

Location: Minnesota: where it's tough to be a sportsfan! | It depends on what you want for overall weight of the rig. I ran the heavy weight up front holding the limbs, then a swimbait with a 1 ounce weight on the business end. They are just allot to throw I think the big one was 20" long the smaller ones were deemed not worth the effort. The more popular ones were around 12. " I saved the big ones for the time when all I can do is troll. |

I showed it to enough of them that were amused by it but not enough to eat it. If you send me your txt number I will send you a pic of one that caught the most fish. BTW pike love them! |

| What interests me about this rig is the way it mimicks a school of bait. Obviously given MN laws you would have to have one offering as the larger profile in an effort to get the fish to hit the hooked bait. The big challenge I've seen with these is that casting them seems like a major chore. I have used them to troll, usually with 4 willow leafs on the arms and then a musky sized bait on a 5' leader off the back. Never had any success on that rig. The vertical jigging/ fall thing seems very viable if you can locate fish so you know you have the presentation in the zone. Definitiely somethign I will explore further, but as of yet, I've had zero success. |

Location: Middletown, Ohio | I made a couple after seeing that video this fall,but haven't had a chance to try them out yet. I used .062 wire to build mine and made a silicone mold to form the head and have made 2 different versions, one that is completely lead (around 7 oz) and another version that has 1.5 oz. Of lead then that is covered with resin. Here's a couple photos of the 2 that I made plus a couple photos of the master and mold I made to make them

| Very nice!
Love the multiple blades idea.
I think this rig has potential on St Clair as many muskie track bait schools there.
You never know if u don't try something new.

| Why not just use an umbrella rig as a teaser and troll a bait behind it? I would think casting that thing would get old quick. |

| That thing looks sweet. I bet it's going to pull like a mother with all those little Colorado blades. You could probably put bigger willow blades on it and still have it pull easier if you wanted it to. The resin over lead idea sounds solid too. Good work, wish I had one or two of em. |

| If I can throw pounders for 8 hours then I should be able to cast this thing. But we will see. Hopefully it does not tangle n the cast.

Location: Poynette WI. | I throw them with the winch60 and point my rod at the rig during retrieval and brings it in easily. I also have another style for a bait fish look but thats a secret some long time muskie guys have taught me and would probably use me for the anchor if i talk about it. lol. The winch 4:6:1 ratio can bring a boat in like a trout spinner. At least i think so.  |

| While Fubar's rig is sweet looking I`m not into casting extra gear. Certainly willing to get more creative trolling. That's just me though. |
