Posts: 36 | Hi Guys, I have some spare money and will by buying a new Shimano Tekota and I was wondering if you have any suggestion for a good trolling rod to go with that. I like to troll with some # 10 cowgirls, depth raider, Grandma 13'', at speed of 3,5 mph to 6 mph. Would any one have any suggestion on what type of rod should I be using, length, the type of action (moderate, fast) and the power (heavy, MH, XH) thanks!!

Posts: 36 | Hi, I just have a question regarding the break proof rod. I've read in some article that your rod will actually do a bit of the work for the hook set, but you still have too set the hook when you pick up your rod. Therefore, if your rod is too stiff, would that compromise the hook set while trolling. Or maybe i've just misinteprated what you meant.

Posts: 176 Location: ON | In my opinion the boat sets the hook pretty much all the time. You just need to get the rod out of the holder and tighten up on the fish. No upward hook setting motion, just crank down and apply a moderate amount of pressure. I leave the boat in gear until the rod is in my hand and I can feel the fish, then put it in neutral. Something needs to give, and or stretch when you troll. If you use a zero stretch braid, you need to either run a looser drag or have a rod with more fiberglass in it to take the shock off a bit when a fish strikes. Or both! Both has worked great for me. Medium drag easily pulled by hand and cheapo TDR rods, fish on! Lots of guys here use the St Croix 8' Premier Trolling Rods. If you want something to last a lifetime and you plan to troll a lot, look into a custom rod from one of the many out there. Thorne Bros, Custom X, Migizi, etc...

Posts: 1060 Location: Palm Coast, FL | Migizi E-glass rods are unmatched and built for trolling! All our trolling rods have Kevlar built into the butt section of the rod for extra support, lifting and hooksetting power. No other rod on the market has this. The shrink wrap won't come loose after repeated seasons of use. The solid stainless steel guides are bulletproof and won't fail on you. On the 7'6" and 8' models, the reel seat is made out of a double nickel plated brass with double locking nuts. This keeps the reel in place all the time and won't let it come loose after vibrating all day trolling. I will be at most of the muskie shows this season with show specials on all rod models. Made right here in the USA and a supporter, contributor and advertiser of Muskie First. Give me a call also if you have any questions 574-551-0214. You can find all our trolling rods here: http://migizifishingrods.com/index.php?route=product/category&path=...
