Location: New Hope MN | Fished Tonka Saturday AM & Sunday AM. We did bag a lil guy, but nothing to get excited about. I think Sunday night would have been good, but life happens. Tried some suspended/sailboat dodging Sunday late morning with some nice arcs, but no rips. Snagged a 28" (heavy) carp.
I would say July has started very slow. Slower than June which wasn't great either... |

| very poor.. been out 7 times - very few follows and probably nothing over 42 inches for follows either.. i think your seeing the effects of the very high water temps last year. |

I haven't seen anything big either. One mid 40 perhaps.
Are you thinking last year's high temp caused a die off? |

Location: Otsego, MN | Last fall the lake was still full of plenty if pigs, so they survived the heat of the summer. They are still in there lots of nice fish. |

| Slowest I can recall in the last 10 years. I agree of all the follows which have been few and far between nothing that would be bigger then low 40 fish..... Last fall saw fewer big fish then I have seen too. Who knows a lot of people didn't quit fishing with the high temps, I think we lost some more fish then usual last year... |

| Me and my fishing buddy have gotten 8 out of tonka so far this season with the biggest being a 45.5 incher. We have seen some very large fish as well in the same spots we saw them last year.
Try throwing a little different style of bait and reeling it in completely erratic. We have gotten a lot of fish to follow with that technique. |

| Or the fishing has been good and people don't want the masses to know about it. Only way to know is to get out on the water and try it out. I have personally heard mixed reports, but know of a few people who have had some good success. I have not been able to get out there at all this year so I cannot give any type of report.
Bottom line, don't go fishing somewhere based on what you read online. You may miss out on a good bite.

There is probably a reason you always see Turgeon fishing bass these days.
Actually local conditions have not impacted my muskie fishing at all...the Smallie bite up north has been so good that I have been focusing on that. Something about 30-50 smallies a day averaging about three pounds is pretty addicting. That said I gave the local pond a shot for muskies today...first time really fishing them in a month. I managed a mid forties fish about three hours into a four hour trip out. Open water was the key... |
