Posts: 413 Location: Madison WI | Depends on if they are the new Luhr Jensen or the old ones. The old ones were hit and miss the new ones are all golden. How much are they charging for the Luhr? It is a tell tale sign on if its the old or new.

Posts: 432 Location: Eagan, MN | Isn't the luhr jensen the little one w/ the yellow handle? Those things work great, but I'm not sure I even paid $5 total for it.

Posts: 422 | I think you're talking about the file which might be a little bigger than the one cast10K is talking about. Save your money and go with the Tyrant. I have one and it works great and have had no issues with it at all.

| Save time and money and get a Smitty hook file instead. | |||

Posts: 413 Location: Madison WI | The old Luhr Jensen files were under $6 the new ones are topping out at $18, they changed how they made them so they weren't hit and miss all the time. I have 2 and just got done using just 1 for all my 400+ baits still works like a charm.

Posts: 432 Location: Eagan, MN | Ahh I see, so it's the same design/size, just better? The one I have works great, had it for years now. I can't see how they'd improve it 3X, but even at $18 it's a small investment for sharp hooks. Is the Smitty file mentioned above one of those twin rat-tail files? If so I have one, the biggest problem w/ it is that it removes too much hook material and you're left w/ a short little nub, instead of a nice long taper.

Posts: 89 | Go with the Tyrant file. I've been using them for two years, they are as good or better than any Luhr Jensen file. I'm OCD about sharpening hooks, and this file keeps me happy!

go to the hardware store, buy two round chainsaw files and a handle, tape or shrink-tube the outside ends together and pound the other ends into the handle. it'll cost you about $5...and sharpen your hooks as good as anything out there.
