Location: Eagan, MN | Has anyone had problems getting their HDS to load Navionics data? Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I put the chip in, and change the source from lowrance to navionics, but most of the time it won't display. Instead I get some lousy default map... not even the lowrance data, but some cheesy white and orange crap that isn't even close to accurate. So I end up restarting my HDS, or toggling back and forth between navionics and lowrance, and eventually it works. Any advice? |

Location: Stevens Point, WI | Is your unit up to date with the newest software update? Lowrance just released 3.5 two weeks ago, it's suppose to help with Navionics chips.

| The update that TJ mentioned will fix your problem. If you have trouble doing the download you might try going to a boat dealership and seeing if they have the update on a SD card. It took a few minutes to do my graphs that way and I thought was a little easier than doing the download.

Location: north central wisconsin | Any other features with the new update that might be useful?? Any additional interface support between the lcx and hds, which is marginal right now? Does the update do anything to the sonar performance, as mine works pretty well right now and I'd hate to see it change. |

Location: Stevens Point, WI | Reef, the update has been stellar for me, it'll only help. I know you've had one bad update with an LCX, but I know that was quickly taken care of with a follow up update. I would highly suggest updating each time they put one out there, it will only help your unit believe it or not.
The two main improvements you'll notice are:
- System Improvements – HDS 3.5 software improves system stability and increases speed when operating with multi-channel sonar configurations.
- Navionics® Charting Improvements – This new software update enhances a user’s experience with Navionics® mapping products, including smoother route planning, shading of safety depths and contours with both metric and non-metric measures, correcting issues with User Settings not being retained, and correcting issues with HDS reverting to (0,0) position upon power up with no GPS lock.

Location: north central wisconsin | Yup, for me, the 1.6 and 1.7 have been the best software updates for my lcx 111 unit, sonar-wise. I know there are other features I am missing out on, but my sonar works the best in all conditions I face, with the 1.6 or 7 vs the 2+ updates.
I'll take a look at the 3.5 a bit further, and perhaps run the new software. Thanks for the info man! |

Location: Eagan, MN | OK, so I finally got around to trying this. I followed the instructions on the link, but when I put card w/ the updates in my units I don't see anything happening. Does this just take awhile? I would expect some kind of feedback from the unit saying it is updating.... but nothing. Appreciate any help thanks. |

Location: Stevens Point, WI | cast10K, before you do anything, turn the unit on, hit menu, go to settings, then go to system, then go down to About. I need to know what software version you have first. There is a good chance you need an update before the 3.5 software. The first production run of the HDS units need the HDS Navionics Background Chart update before the 3.5 can be installed, it's for the first HDS models released. This issue your having are symptoms of an early production unit.
If you have one of the first HDS units out, you will need to update the unit with two software updates, and they have to be done in order. So please follow those instructions at the top, and let me know which software the HDS unit is currently running. |

For unit #2, you need to download the HDS Navionics Background Chart-this is for the early production HDS units like yours. Here is the link to that download, you need to do this before you do anything else.

This only needs to go on unit 2.
Have you got the 3.5 software downloaded on a SD card for sure? |

Yes I have 3.5 on my card now, assuming I'll have to delete that first?
Also, neither one of my units would load the 3.5 update from my card... maybe I need this other update for that one first, too? |

Location: Stevens Point, WI | Did you put the sd card in the unit, and hit power? It should automatically load it when you hit power. Did you clear the sd card before downloading the update?
If it's not loading, I'm guessing you don't have it on the sd card. The 3.5 can go on unit 1, but not on unit 2 till you put that other update on it, the one I mentioned above. |
