Posts: 11 Location: Wisconsin | Time for some new tires on my trailer. Not very pleased with the stock tires that are on there now, seems like they should last a little longer than they have. Since I don't know anything about tires in general, I'm looking for input about brands and types of tires. Is there any advantage with radials vs. bias ply? (stock tires are 175/80 13 bias ply) I travel an even mix of local highway and inter state speeds, usually less than 2000 miles per year. The weight is around 1600 lbs. I would appreciate any experiances, and suggestions you all could share. Thanks, Mike

Location: SE Wisconsin | Radials and make sure you have them balanced. I agree with para, brand names really don't make too much difference.

Radials. I had a set of Goodyear Marathons that came stock on my Shorelander Trailer. Never had a problem in 9 years. Canada each year and a couple times back and forth to Phoenix, AZ. I just put a new set on and was thinking of gettting the Carlisle's and heard nothing but bad things about them. I got the Goodyear's again.

Posts: 462 Location: Syracuse, Indiana | Ditto Ballcap. I just replaced my Goodyear Marathons after 8 years, 50,000+ miles, and no problems. My dealer suggested Carlisle tires to save a few bucks. I insisted on the Marathons. Total difference in cost was $35.00. Well worth it for the peace of mind.

Posts: 17 | I am running Marathons but will run Maxxis tires if I can find them here. If you look at the reviews, the guys with travel trailers recommend them hands down. Kevin

Posts: 994 Location: Minnesota: where it's tough to be a sportsfan! | One of the best things you can do to help out with good tow and ease in backing not to mention Tire wear is to have the axle laser aligned on your trailer. Everytime when my boys were young and I saw one of them jump a curb I was on them. An axle moves a little with each jolt like that and after some time this will take a toll on the tires. Most guys also do not follow this rule but depending on storage situations, ozone levels etc...tires have a life expectentcy of 5- 10 years tops. With 7 being a very common number in the Midwest. Think about that one, I know the neighbor has three boats and one set of tires he has are still the origninals on a 1992 trailer. These are the tires with great tread patterns that you see a 1/2 tire at mile marker 94 and the other half at 101!

Posts: 196 | I put goodyear marathon tires on my boat trailer and couldn't be more happy with them! They have been excellent in both ride and durability. I live in Indiana, so as we all know my boat sets for about 5-6 months a year depending on weather. I haven't had flat spot number one, no weather cracks, and no noticable tire wear. I have had the tires for about 3 years. They have virtually no road noise, they ride great, pull nice, and look nice. Hopefully this helps....also they are rated for interstate speeds which some are not.
