Motor seems to be acting up lately, not starting on first crank, spuddering in low RPM's.. ..Had a buddy recommend Seafoam. Who uses it, notice any difference in how your engine runs?

Yes, use seafoam -- it's great stuff and makes my engine puuuuurrrrrrr! I add it to every tank-full.

What motor you running? My Merc 50 hp 2 stoke does not like gas with ethanol at all, sputters and kills out, usually when I trying to troll at the lowest throttle. I've run 2 cans of seafoam through, seems to help, but I always try to stay away from the ethanol. In Madison, Wayne's Automotive on Cottage Grove Rd has all grades of gas ethanol free, usually only a couple of pennies a gallon higher.

125 2-stroke. There's not too many places around me that sell non-ethonal gas unless it's the high grade. thanks for the heads up in Cottage Grove.

it's a merc.
that's just normal!
; )

i'm running a 115 merc 2-stroke and it is a merc ... best thing to do from my experience is to make sure and run premium fuel with no ethanol. if you don't it will be even more finicky than it already is ... just doing that has made the difference for me. i ran into exactly what you are describing shortly after buying this boat and once i made the change i've been happier.

Magruter,
get some of the Quicksilver Quickleen Engine Treatment...about the only place you will find it is Mazanets or Inland boats on Bridge Rd (off the old beltline)
run that in your gas...works wonders...not cheap but worth it....then after treatment with that I would recommend the Quicksilver Fuel System Cleaner.

New plugs might not be a bad idea, either.

I would go along with Steve's Idea, soon as plugs are getting worn( gap is getting to big) my motor will not run well at low speed and idle, check plugs for gap to MFG specs, bet new plugs will take care of the issue.

I was having the same problems with the kicker and was told to use Sea Foam. Made a post at the following forum out here in Utah on Sea Foam.

http://utahwildlife.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=7263

Bottom line for us we use Sea Foam all the time including switching to a higher octane 87 or better fuel. Have had no kicker problems sense we added the Sea Foam. Did smoke and spit out some nasty looking carbon gunk from the exhaust and now she purrrrrrrrs like a kitten.

WAIT WAIT WAIT....!!

Before changing plugs or dumping that can of seafoam in the tank, get yourself some "powertune" from mercury. This is like Seafoam in a pressurized can that you spray into your carb throats. What you do with this is set your motor at high idle, then spray into the carb thoats...the motor will bog down but continue to alternate carbs. After a little bit, kill the engine then spray more powertune into each carb throat. Then...let the motor sit for about 1/2 hour or so.

Finally, take the boat out to the lake, and open her up...you will have a bunch of white smoke, but what you have just done is clear all the gunk out in one big blow. Most, if not all carbon build-up will be gone.

Once done with that, THEN change your plugs out.

Should run really smooth...

Yeah, it's roughly across the street from Ace on Cottage Grove Rd. It's ususally a couple of cents higher, but it's the only place I know of where all 3 grades are ethanol free, filled the boat up Sat. was $3.559/gal.

Tried seafoam this weekend, worked wonders! Put another 1.5 mph's and she's running like a champ. Also tossed a bottle in the truck, and oh man huge difference there!! Thanks for all the recommendations.

Glad to hear Sea Foam worked. I was also a little leary of using it until I posted up out here in Utah on the stuff and received all kinds of positive comments. Now I just wish I could use Sea Foam for the weather we're now getting...winter is a-knocking at the door.
