| i just bought a new st. croix 8'6 with a 7000i with the big handle on it
will it be able to put up with the abuse of burning cowgirls and supermodles for a week?
plus i will be throwing big dawgs on this same set up

Location: Yahara River Chain | You must have been under rocks the last 6 months. Nearly everyone is is using 7000 series for that application.
So the answer is YES!!!!!!

its a 8'6 extra heavy with a fast action
just picked it up at thorne bros the other day it kind of a glossy black but so far i like it im leaving here in two days for a week long trip of throwing pounders and cowgirls ill give you a pm when i get back |

There is also a legend version of the rod rated for 4-10 oz. baits. I have it, I fish it, I love it. |

I have the same set up and if you have not used that combo yet, be ready for a workout. It is HEAVY! The 8' 6" MI rod is nice for pounders, but man is it heavy. Then you add a 7000ic3, its like a ton of bricks. I switched my other 7000 (black one) on my MI rod because it's a tad lighter, not much though. My forearms are going to look like popeye the sailorman when the season finishes, lol.  |

Location: Iowa Great Lakes | My MI rod also feels like an anchor after casting my Loomis or Thore Bros rods. Although I don't and won't run a 7000 or anything else Abu on my muskie rods my Shimanos and Okumas are alot lighter reels to cast all day. |

for bigger soft plastics I have the new pro edge st croix swim bait rod with an okuma. For really big blades I have an 8'6" TB custom diamondback with a trinidad. Now your talking about a red hot sword through butter. I swear you can throw 13's all day and not feel it......

| The key to fishing 7000s is to mix it up. If you throw a 7000 all day, you will feel the weight. I have a couple of lighter rods that get the nod for a change of pace. The other key is balancing your rod. I have a 7000 c3i on an 8 ft. musky innovations rod that is rated to 10 ounces. Putting the balancing system on the butt really helps. |

Location: Oshkosh | I use a 7000i and an 8'6" MI rod rated to 10 oz and I like it a lot for burning double 10's. I think that if I was to do it over though i would go with the 7000ic3 black reel, but the 7000i works great. |
