Subject: Deep V Jon Boat

Wondering if anyone has had any experience with deep V jon boats. These boats have a 15 degree V all the way back to the transom instead of the usual flat bottom or 3 degree v flat bottom.

Local dealer sells "Sea Ark" boats, formerly Monarch, and they have a 18 and a 20 foot deep V jon boat. They are 72" wide on the bottom and the beam at the gunnels is 94". They look very stable, and the price is right. Local dealer can also add rod boxes, storage areas, etc. In short, they can be "dressed up."

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Poor Man's Esox Magnum.... I own a 15.5 foot Alumacraft welded hull semi-V jon boat, and love it for what I do with it. I have a 25hp four stroke yamaha on it.

My buddy has a 18 footer and it offers a much smoother ride than the traditional flat bottoms, the thing is unbelievabley stable.... two guys standing up casting and it doesn't move.

I would think if you fish smaller lakes, rivers, flowages, and are a bit handy(you can make your own interior boxes, carpet, etc) that you could put a nice package together for a very attractive price.

Thanks for the response. However, how does it take the waves and "rollers" on bigger water?

Thanks

Waves and big water are perspective terms.... Your definition of big water may very well be different than mine.

Here's the best I can give you... I've had it on lakes up to 5,000 acres, and rivers that are 1/8 mile wide, and I've had it in waves up to 2 footers and felt safe. In any kind of water the semi-v jons will offer a much less choppie ride than the flat bottoms.

If you are looking for something that will handle 3+ footers on a consistent basis and give you a smooth ride I recommend you look at a v-hull boat.

Sorry for the delay, I've been on the road for work for past two days, this is the first time I've seen the board since Monday the 10th.

I have a Sea Ark 1860 that is decked and has rod lockers that will take 8 foot rods, three batteries, 48 inch livewell(used for storage), and 18 gallon tank. I have no problem with safety in two to three footers. It isn't fun, but I can troll in them. Very stable casting and I can walk all around the edge. It is a pain to cast out of in the wind becouse of the shallow draft. It moves like a duck feather on the water. Alumacraft makes a 20 footer that I have been looking at that has 30 inch sides and with a center console will take a 130 hp. It also has a heavier gauge hull, and there are a lot of options for it. It's good to have choices, Later.

How did you get the 8 foot rod lockers?

Do you live near Southern Illinois? Would love to see your boat.

I built the deck and everything the way I wanted it. I am in S. Illinois and Kinkaid is my home lake. Belleville Sport Sales is a good place to look for a Sea Ark. Gary, the owner, is a super guy and honest. Later

Are you in the Shawnee Musky Hunters? I would like to see your boat. What size motor do you have? All the related questions.

I have a 16' fiberglass bass boat with an old motor, 1990 and an old T motor. Would like to upgrade.

Sorry to be such a pest, but I really would like to see your boat.

I am going to try to go to Kinkaid tomorrow, Sunday the 16th.

It is rare for me to be at the lake on weekends. I have all week to go. I have a 50 tiller and a MotorGuide DS. I'll get some pics of it tomorrow and mail them to you if you give me a e-mail address. Later

Great, would love to see your boat. [email protected].

Thanks a lot. Looked at some Sea Ark's at the Marina today when I fished Kinkaid. The 15 degree looked as deep as a Crestliner 16' that they had as a trade in. Really interested in an 18' 60" or 72" boat. Wondering why did you go with the 60"?

I also fish the Kaskaskia River and strip pits. It is easier to get around in tight places. I have a question for you. Why don't you become a member here? It's free, so it's worth what you pay for it.

I didn't get any pictures the other day becouse it was dark when we got back to the ramp. I don't have a digital, but I will get some with my 35mm. I need to take three more so I can see the fish I have on the roll. Later

What I really want to know/see is how you got an 8' rod box in the boat. The dealer on Lake Kinkaid says that you have to go to the 20' to get a 7' rod box.

Thanks
