| Posts: 2112 Location: The Sportsman, home, or out on the water | My wife and I have decided to repaint our aluminum boat. Is there a special paint, primer, whatever for aluminum? Also, I'm repainting our cowl, or motor cover as well, which is also aluminum. after painting, would it help if I baked it in the oven (yes, it fits)? Thanx in advance, Rob and Lori | ||

I use Tempo, it's a green color primer and made for marine applications. The last I bought was $8.79 for a 12oz spray can. I don't bake my paint, but if you use quality paint and the Zinc Chromate primer it will be fine. Just remember the prep work is the most important step in painting.

Fleet Farm sells a line of polyurethane marine paint which I just used on part of my boat. Good stuff for about 15$ a quart. It thins easy to run through the sprayer and they sell the primer right alonside. Elwood

| Posts: 2112 Location: The Sportsman, home, or out on the water | here are a few pics that i took today, before any serious work begins. Bear in mind that this boat is a '57 alumicraft, and there is a '56 Johnson 30 on the back. This is my boat until Lori and my vehicles are paid off, and my oldest is 18 and off of payroll. We ordered Die cut "Muskynightmare Custom Muskybait" logos for both sides of the boat. We are doing a silver metallic on the bottom, and metallic black for the upper portion. The new carpet (no, not the cheap junk pictured) will be the same shade of silver as the bottom. The Cowl is getting painted Firetiger. More pics as we progress. | Posts: 2112 Location: The Sportsman, home, or out on the water | Hi! Thanx for the kind words. As far as the seats go, if you have cheap seats, they would cost more to re-do than buying new ones. He does beautiful work, but he is not cheap. He did mine for free because I'm always there to help him out with something heavy and lend him tools. He also asked for a few of my baits to hang on the wall, which I gladly gave to him. He is a retired man, so this is pretty much all he does. E-mail me at: [email protected], and I'll shoot you his phone number. Oh yeah, I'll be posting new updated pics this weekend. Edited by muskynightmare 4/14/2005 6:56 AM | ||

| Posts: 2112 Location: The Sportsman, home, or out on the water | Sorry everyone. I had to take a break from the boat to finish bait orders, and Double J and I got it all together at 8:30pm the night before the southern opener. here are pics of the finished product (as if a boat is ever a finished product). | Posts: 32935 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Great job! My son is in the process of doing the same thing with a very old Meyers aluminum. Sort of a 'Pimp My Ride' for muskie boats. I really like the motor cowl. | ||
