Posts: 199 | I thought I would ask you guys/and girls what you can recommend as the best raingear ? I started out with the cheap Stearns suits and about 3-4 years ago I went to a Pac-Tech suit from Gander Mt it cost around $100. Last fall I noticed that the wear parts (elbows ,knees ,and seat )were leaking through so time for a new set . I am thinking about buying a Gore Tex suit these suits are expensive so I want to buy the right one . What is the best brand? I noticed on Cabela's that some of the suits are 100% waterproof and others do not say . Thanks in advance for your input Shane

Posts: 814 | I have the bass pro shops 100mph gear it is expensive about 375.00 for bibs and jacket but it is water proof, and its gortex and it has heavy duty wear panels on the knees, butt area and around the elbows I have had it for 2 seasons now and have had no problems what so ever with the product plus it is fairly light weight so it doesn't weigh your arms down when casting all day long hope this helps.

Posts: 1 | i bought a rocky rainsuit about 4 years ago. only comes in camo if you don't mind the color. got it on clearance for $70.00. it is excellent. gets beat up and still like new. knock on wood. its not gore tex, but is whatever rocky uses on their suits. windproof, waterproof. bought it because of all the luck ive had with rocky boots.

Posts: 20281 Location: oswego, il | I have the bass pro gortex rain gear. Been good for 5 years for the most part but in a heavy all day rain, my sleeves and pantlegs can get wet as well as rain coming in from my neckline but i suspect it's because i wear the gear loose in those areas. Get camo. Don't get loud colored raingear.

| For the money, my Cabela's rain gear is great and I have had it forever! | |||

Posts: 1438 | I've got Cabela's and know a bunch of other people who do as well. No one I've heard from has had any problem with the Guidewear. I also know people who have the BPS 100mph stuff and they have had no problems either. I think it'll end up being personal preference in the end. I'll second Todd on the color thing though. The Guidewear and 100mph stuff don't come in camo. Or at least they didn't when I bought. I got red/black because it looked good. I won't make that mistake again. Forest Green/Dark Blue or Grey will be my choice next time. We've had that discussion here before. I've noticed a lot more fish flaring off well away from the boat with the red raingear. Scott

Posts: 1438 | Almost forgot. Gander Mountain has some Goretex stuff out now too. Tech2O maybe?? Anyways, I haven't really heard much about it good or bad yet. But, it's about 100 bucks a set cheaper. More, if you can find it on sale. Scott

I used Gortex for years and years, thought synthetics where THE way to go, then got tired of replacing em after several seasons. Do yourself a favor and check out <http://www.filson.com> . Look at the foul weather bibs. Priced at about $150 you will get a pair of waterproof/windproof bibs that will last 20 years. I got em, and love em. After years of using synthetics camping, hiking, and fishing, in winter and summer, and all seasons in between, I have come back to the tried and true of natural materials. Wool, and cotton canvas just can't be beat. Steve P.S. they also make a foul weather jacket. There's a reason their motto is "Might as well have the best".

Posts: 2515 Location: Waukesha & Land O Lakes, WI | You're asking for the BEST, right? I went on a Mt Everest Basecamp trek about 6 years ago and did a ton of studying about the ins and outs of this stuff. I'd have to say that out of all the gear you could buy, mountaineering clothing is by far and away the best built and most expensive gear you'll find. A few companies to look for........... Marmot Arcteryx Mountain Hardware NorthFace Outdoor Research You're looking at about 500.00 to 800.00 for a suit, not cheap, but mountaineering gear is the best.

| I just got some North Face stuff. I absolutely love the stuff. I got the Summit Series. Pretty pricey stuff. About $350 just for the jacket if you pay retail. But look at Ebay. Most Goretex rainsuits are real thin and look like a rain suit. North Face is top of the line stuff. Steve Hulbert | |||

Posts: 2089 | I have Cabelas Guide Wear, and so far so good.BUT, If I was to do it again, I'd give a serious look at the Filson stuff.I've got coats etc. and it is the most durable, toughest stuff I've ever owned. Steve

Posts: 285 | For a regular goretex shell, I recently saw that Sierra Trading Post had a closeout on 2XL size jacket by 10X brand for $49. I thought that was a great deal. I also recently purchased a Helly Hansen jacket there (listed as a snowboarding jacket) that's supposed to be waterproof/breathable. So far I haven't been out in the rain with it, but it's a great everyday winter jacket as well. www.sierratradingpost.com later, papa joe
