When I'm not fishing Muskies, Cabela's, Gander Mountain, St. Croix and Fenwick.
Reels are all over the place as far as brands. |

Location: West Central WI | I have 12 rods with variable lengths, powers and action under brands MHX, Rainshadow, Thrasher, and St Croix. All custom. For reels, I have multiple models and gear ratios, under brands Abu Garcia, Diawa, and Okumo. Most every situation is covered, but I rarely carry more than three on the boat. |

| im definitely a whore when it comes to rods and reels. no loyalty at all.
Musky - i really did like St. Croix LT's, but have now replaced with some Elliots. Like Abu and Shimano so use some of each.
Bass - im all over the map. Technique specific down the lineup. I dont have two of the same rods or reels, and no matching combos
Walleye - again all over the map. But do prefer Shimano reels, but Diawa has some nice stuff in their value line like Regals. I have two Stradic Ci4's a smaller one for vertical jigging, and a bigger one for pitching, then lots of other misc. |

Location: Michigan | St. Croix Legend Tournament rods and then Piscifun Alijoz 300 reels. I used to run all Lexa 300s in 6.3:1 with a 400 in 5.1:1 for blades. I'm weird/OCD and like to have all my rods and reels matching. |

Location: E. Tenn | St. Croix gets the nod 90% of the time, TI stuff for backup, and I have a couple Okuma EVX rods gathering dust.
I've been using Abu Garcia reels since I bought my first 5500C in '82. Still have and use a couple of Revo Toros, but the Beasts always lead off.. |

Chaos Tackle trolling rods with Tekota 500 line counters
I used to use revo toro reels, but I had major issues with the bearings in the levelwinds and got sick of dealing with the warranty dept at Garcia. The Tranx reels have been flawless in my boat. The only thing the 300/400 don’t like is below freezing. I need to get something for the 25 degree days. |

Location: Minneapolis, Minnesota | 2 Thorne bros stealth rods, 1 Thorne predator, and 2 chaos 20/20’s for rods, all 10ft.
For reels 1 tranx 500hg, 2 tranx 400’s hg, and 2 diawa lexa TWS’s in 7.1 for bucktails. I bought a bunch of diawa stuff last year and like them for straight retrieve stuff because of the long handle and how far they cast, but tranx are a lot tougher for baits I’m giving action to.
Got an okuma EVX and a savage gear battle tek rod that I’ve kept for when friends want to fish that don’t have their own stuff with some lexa hd’s that are backup reels for my other setups. Both of those rods are awesome for the price, especially that battle tek. It was low $200’s when I bought it and I honestly like the 9’ XH a lot better than the st croix LT big nasty I used to throw, super light and the right action to throw a wide variety of baits.
With rods I don’t need everything exactly the same power but I do like them all to be the same length with the same rear grip length. For me it’s a 19” rear, once you get in the groove for a certain length it’s way easier for everything to be the same. |

Location: Walker, MN | I run Elliot Muskie rods (Paul and Gregg Thorne's newer company) and Shimano TranX reels. In freezing temps, I rely on a few old Daiwa Saltists. I ran a mish mosh of rods and reels for years, that works fine too. |

I've always looked at rods more like golf clubs, where some lengths are better suited for different techniques. |

I throw gliders all the time with long rods. You can work the rod across your body instead of vertically and get (probably) the same effect. |

Maybe it is just the way my dad taught me when I was young and starting to fish with him, but I agree with you. I have always used shorter rods for jerkbaits, longest I use is 7'. To me I just feel like I have more control and can manipulate the bait the way I want to. |
