| Wondering what you guys/gals fishing shad based lakes are using. I'm using Tuffs,Bagleys(nice thru wire on the new ones)and a few old Dana cranks.Thinking about early spring and want to get some info from the Ohio guys on their spring techniques.From what I remember reading, trolling small shad baits and casting small gliders.Has anybody read the book by Danny Wade?Thanks for the input. I fish a shad based lake in central Illinois every week.
I have my best action is on gliders in the spring (upper 40 degree water). When the water get's around 50 - 55 degrees, I have found that the fish like willowleaf spinnerbaits.
Warm water/summer months is lil Ernie & Jake time.
Topwater in the fall. I hope that helps you!

Location: MIlton Ontario Canada | Is there any Rattle trap type lures that may come with bigger hooks and a bigger body but the same style bait? Like maybe a 6 i nch model? I got a couple stained rivers that I think they would be great on at certain times of the year.

Location: oswego, il | I have good luck with trolling bagley monster shads and grandma deep divers and the drop belly slammer deep divers. We also do well with bigger slammer deep divers and depth raiders too. |

| I fish Ohio lakes. I downsize my baits for early spring fishing. Have had decent luck with AC Shiners, both OO's and the smaller minnow baits, and Lee Sisson's Lures. Early season I also will use Rapala J-13's and Tuff Shads. Have you tried using planer boards to get your baits in closer to shore?

I also have good success with rapala shad raps, small bait but catches fish casting and trolling. |

Location: Chicago, Beverly | Not 6"s. The Musky trap is 4&3/4' long and 1.5 oz. I have attached a pic with two different sized Rattlin Raps, and then a 1oz Rattle Trap and then the Musky Trap just for size comparison. I think the Rapala's are size 7 & 8.

Location: Gaithersburg, Maryland | I like the Durst painted 5" Tuff Shads and the Rapala Super Shadraps in silver. I've had a lot of luck trolling the propwash with these baits. I also like the Shad Rap for casting. They work great. Funny, there's no Shad in the lake I fish. |

Location: Iowa | Hi Steve, you probably already know what I'm going to say, but I'll say it again. Drop Belly Glider will probably on at all times this spring. I will try some others, but I think that is going my go to bait until the water warms up later in the spring. Then again, I haven't seen any of the new ones or placed an order for a while either. |

I have no idea what it is called. It was perch but I repainted and epoxied it as a Crappie this winter. Randy Whiteman or somone else might know what it is. The Rattletrap is 4 inches this is 6. Lipless rattle bait but don't know brand or name. Bought it off good old eBay.
