Figured I'd get a thread going on the newly relased Curado 300K, as it seems very similar to the much loved Tranx. They're not offered in a 400 size and they're not available for a few months, but it'll come in a 4.7:1 and 6.6:1 ratio. Aside from the ratio, specs seem very similar to tranx 300. Same number of bearings, same lbs of drag, same line capacity. I'm guessing it's less sealed for saltwater.
Around 1oz lighter than the Tranx and its MSRP is $199, so decent bit cheaper than the Tranx. Plus the ratios are intriguing. I'll be interested to see the reviews, could prove to be a pretty nice musky reel!

Crap I just bought a 300 tranx a month ago. Would have loved to save money and get a lighter reel too. Oh well love my Tranx!

Me too! Seems like it'll be a good reel, but I guess time will tell. Would be great if it came in a 400 size. Also forgot to mention that the new Curado 300K doesn't come with the power handle in either model.

Another similar reel also got released from Daiwa, a 300 size Tatula.. it has3 different but all high gear ratios (6.3, 7.1, 8.1) and both left and right hand versions.

Regarding the curado 300k, i have read that part of the price difference is that it isint as protected as a 300 tranx againt saltwater. Shimano seems to be aiming it at the bass swimbait guys while aiming the tranx at the offshore guys.

When Shimano comes out with a DC 300 or 400 reel that will sell like crazy. For whatever reason it seems to only work with smaller spooks

Yeah, I forgot to mention that! I'll be interested to see how the T-wing system works with Daiwa's 300 size

For sure, can't wait for a 300/400 size DC reel. One of the more forgotten DC reels though was the Trinidad DC, which was a pretty large saltwater reel. Don't know how well it worked or how well it sold, but me too, wish they'd make a large DC reel for muskies

As a guy new to the sport, looking at a tranx 300, the 300 curado made me wonder. I think i best wait a few months to see how the curado is performing compared to the 300 tranx.

pryan0225: DC stands for Digital Control, and is a technology used by Shimano to reduce backlashes. Basically it uses the electromagnetic energy from the spinning spool with wire coils+magnets during the cast to power a microcomputer system. This system then can dynamically apply braking during your cast. Thought I wouldn't like it much because I'm good with thumbing/adjusting baitcasters, but on the bass reels I have with DC (SLX DC and Curado DC), it allows me to change baits and not even think about adjusting anything, and bomb casts into shifting winds with high-resistance baits that'll often catch the wind (buzzbaits, spinnerbaits, etc).

When fishing in the winter and ice starts to accumulate on your reels - Can the T wing system work?

I think I'm more excited about traditional Curado's offering.

The day I need a digital control on my baitcasters is the day I'll hand in my man card. Good grief!
