| Hi guys, I recently bought a Lexa 300 hsl with the power handle. It began to squeal pretty good while the line is heading out on a cast. It started up about half way through the first day of using. I did some looking. Not sure anyone else has had my issue with the 300 before. Any thoughts? Brand new reel, never been wet etc. Should I have to oil a new reel? I'm not afraid to, but, I have never opened up a reel before.

Location: Jane Lew, WV | Greg same issue happened with my 400HS. I put a dab of oil in the bearings and that helped some but did not alleviate the issue entirely. Not sure what is up with it myself. |

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | That's why companies have warranties. Lube spool bearings? Make sure you do not over tighten the cast control as well, that can cause all sorts of problems with today's new reels.. |

If you have a reel that squeals on the cast and has spool brakes on the spool
Here is how you determine what is squealing
Turn off all the spool brakes, push the plastic brake in on the spool all 6 of them
Then loosen up the cast controll knob
And make a short cast if the reel has no squeal the spool brakes need a light coat of oil
If the reel still squeals one or both of the spool bearings need to be cleaned and reoiled |

Location: Aurora | Got a used 300 on a trade, sent it directly to P-Master for a complete run-thru with all the upgrades including handle paddle ball bearings (don't knock um till you try um). Two seasons on it now and i squeal with joy every time i use it.

| thanks all for the advice. I'm going to be that crazy person casting in their backyard tomorrow after work trying the methods. If no luck then I will return. |

Location: Grand Rapids, MI | This is common with lots of reels, especially if you fish hard water that seems to suck any lubricant out of a reel. On a Lexa only tighten the spool tension enough so the spool doesn't slide back and forth, all cast control should be done using the magnetic system. Since the Lexa does NOT have any spool brakes you don't need to worry about turning those off.
The fix for this on a Lexa is something that you can do without removing the reel from your rod and it takes less than a minute. Start by opening the side plate of the reel on the cast control side. Loosen the screw in the middle of the reel and rotate the side plate to unlock it. The slide plate will then come right off (there are no loose parts to worry about). Put one drop of reel oil into the center of the bearing on the side plate. Next slide the spool out and put one drop of oil into the bearing on the handle side of the reel. Put the reel back together and go fishing. |

Location: Lake Geneva, WI | Hi had the same issue and was a little worried. I just did as others mentioned above and pulled the spool out and oiled the reel. It casted like a dream afterwards. That was at the end of Aug. and I haven't had the issue again. |

On all the Lexa Reels Daiwa uses a plastic bushing in the frame to support the spool axle I replace them with a ABEC 7 bearing so the reel don't Squel.
Your reel will be smoother under load with the bearing and cast smoother also. |

| A drop of oil on the spool bearings usually does the trick, but I've had a few that were crudded up bad enough where I needed to clean them. Bad algae blooms + Milfoil + a few days fishing in the rain will muck up the inside of your reels more than you think.
Another thing to note:
Reel oil is pretty viscous, especially when it's hot outside. It doesn't stay where you put it forever. |

| OK, thanks for the info guys. I got a replacement this time. If the new one makes noise I will take action. I noticed when taking off the line and putting it on the new reel that the old reel was very loose. The handle and spool could be moved side to side significantly. |
