Have a long weekend booked on the chip next Thursday through Monday. Already paid, and unfortunately it looks like forecasted temps are gonna make the trip a bust. Can't move the trip with everyone's time already taken off. Any ideas on other fun stuff to do up in that area. I know we can do other sorts of fishing but I think some of the guys(myself included) get a bit bored with fishing for non Esox stuff.

I wouldn't rule out musky fishing completely. Watch the water temps and adjust accordingly. There is some very clear water in some of the area lakes that probably won't heat up as quickly.

Night fishing/early morning will have decent water temps. A few weeks ago I had good luck fishing early mornings when the water temps were close to 80 here in Iowa.

Water temps on a lake near Superior WI were 70 last night. I wouldn't be so sure that you'll be over 80. If you are head a little north for some day trips or hit a river.

you're not going to have a problem fishing ... this has been a moderate summer and in no way has it hit any dangerous levels for oxygen. i'm sure it could but air temps. today won't go past 72 degrees and you could count the hot days up here on one hand and have a few fingers left over.

Thanks all. We might check out some rivers in the afternoons. I was seeing air temps in the low 90s the couple days leading up to and during the trip. Will report.

Low nighttime temperatures for most all the season are really helping to keep down the water temps.

Looks like a warm forecast but still lows in the 60's should keep temps down a little. It has been cool up here this year, and the recent 9+ inches of rain should have flushed out and oxygenated the flowage pretty well for a few days.

its been slow compared to last year. they gotta turn on sometime. night and early morning has been productive in the past summers depending on water temps.

Rent some tubes or kayaks and do a float down the Namekagon river.
Or cruise up to the big lake and fish for something up there. Or just go to the brewery or Madeline (take hwy A, 63 is closed).
Might have a lumberjack show going on, too.

I have been fishing the Chip my entire life, have a family cabin on the west fork just down the river from musky tail resort. If you where going to pull an all day'er hit "your" prime spots early am, then make your way over to moores bay, with the river flow out there, the water is always cooler.. hit the mouth of the river and the islands that are close to the river channel. in that particular stretch of river once you get down in the water column 3 feet plus, the water cools off really quick. you would be surprised how cold the rocks are in 6ft plus of water on the bottom with that dark water. I know because I swim in the river year round. Few weeks back bright double 8's with a dark skirt was hot in the bay for me and a buddy. medium retrieve, make sure to do good figure eights and pay attention behind your lure, hard to see them sometimes. ,everything was following and hitting at boat side.

Just got back from the chip yesterday. Water temp was 71.5 and like others said, the water is very high. I managed to catch a beautiful 49" on a topwater and missed two other nice fish in my time up there. I would guess I put in 6 hours of musky fishing total on my trip due to having 2 little kids and a day with incredibly high winds. Pm me of you are staying on the east side, I will give you some spots that had fish on them, I never made it west of CC.
