Location: Merrill, Wisconsin | I tried searching and found no other topics on this.. How do you shorten the rod and still make it look alright?? Any helpful tips? I have a 7'6 st croix and the butt is about 2" to long for my preference. Any ideas? |

Location: Land of the Musky | Take a little off at a time... You can cut the but cap off too and just reuse it. you just need really good epoxy. I like Gorilla glue 2 part epoxy. Then just lightly sand everything smooth. |

Location: Madison | ProKote 45 is what i believe mud hole actually sells for holding cork on a rod, i have used a couple times and never had a grip start to turn or come loose. Just watch the videos they have on rod building and youll learn everything you need to know. |

Location: Madison | Adding 4 inches might be a little tough, i have built rods but adding cork like that would be tough to stabalize the butt of the rod, with out extending the actual rod, maybe sliding everthing up farther would work. |

Location: Duluth, MN | I've cut all the handles down on mine. I cut handle off about 1 inch from the end so the cap remains intact. Then cut out the amount you want towards the reel. Then i whittle down a 2-3 inch wooden dowel that fits into the openings snuggly and then epoxy it all together when the fit is good. This way you have the original end still on the rod. I've never had a failure. |

Location: Maryland | i have added 6 inches to mine. i just took the butt cap off. went to lowes to bought small sewage pipe that fit perfectly in the hollow part of the rod. used duct tape to secure it to the other part of the rod and even more duct tape to make it even with the rest. worked perfect and havent had a problem in 3 years with it.

Location: oswego, il | I like big butts and I cannot lie! To extend without moving the rod you can insert a copper tube or something similar into the butt end of the rob blank to extend it's length first. |

An old graphite golf shaft from a driver works too. Got some off of eBay a while back and rebuilt some rods with longer handles. To make it easy I actually got the long EVA handles from mudhole and they worked great. |

Location: Land of the Musky | Mine? 3 years so far. Key is to get high quality glue too. Make sure its good two part epoxy for high heat. Mudhole sells a really good two part for rod making. Has antioxidants and UV inhibitors in it so it won't degrade over time too... |

Location: PA | Large group of guys around here in PA been doing it exactly like Lundbob explained. 15 plus years for them and I have never heard of an issue. Not real hard and you can't even tell it was done. |
