| Does anyone have any experience with these rod? I am looking at the 7'6" HF. 1-3 oz. This will be my first muskie rod. Never fished for a musky before and this year my main goal is too catch one. I am mainly a bass fisherman that is getting board with 3 lb bass. For reals I have a Calcutta 201B and a Abu 5601c4 with 5501c3 gears in it. While I understand stand that 8' and a heavier rod would be better, this year is just a test and if I enjoy it and have even a little success I will buy a more serious rod or too. So basically is this rod Ok or is it just junk?

Location: Detroit River | I have one of the older Cabelas tourney trail rods (2008 model I think) that was a medium heavy power rated for 1 oz to 3 oz. I used it as a backup rod to my Shimano Compre 7'6". I caught my very first legal sized musky on the Cabelas rod, a 48" on a homemade bucktail. The rod is just collecting dust now. For the money it was a decent rod & it should be a good starter rod for you. I see they have them on sale now for $30 to clear them out for the new models. Another option if you want an 8' rod for starting out is the Gander Mt. musky rods. They're priced around $60 or $70. |

| they make the tourney trail in an 8' extra heavy. they also go onsale for $35 sometimes. the reel seat isn't great, but it works. |

Location: Minneapolis, MN | They are ok rods, I use the 7'6" H as my jerkbait rod and I don't really have any complaints other then it's a little under powered for Squirko XLs, but then again they are also 5-6 oz above what the rod is rated for. |

Location: Western U.P. | Quality wise, it's a good rod to start with, and will work fine with the reels you've got. Cabela's wouldn't sell so many of the Tourney Trails if they were junk. Good luck this season. |

| Wait, you are throwing 11oz lures on a rod rated 1-3 oz. Is this pretty common? I was worried about trying to throwing mini medussas and bondy Jr. |

Location: Minneapolis, MN | Sorry, I meant to say XH, it’s rated 2-6 oz. It also looks like they are coming out with a Muskie version of the Tourney Trail rod and they’ve moved the version of the rod I have into that line. Looks like they are now offering the XH in both a 7’6” and 8’. Personally I’d go with the XH over the H if I was looking to throw those baits and I think it will offer you a little more versatility in the long run. |

| I was at Cabelas looking for one of these a couple weeks ago. The store was sold out and they couldnt find any on their little stock checking tool. Said they are being redesigned. |

| Have one. Like it for under 4oz baits. broke another on a monster fish using a topwater. The bait broke at the thru-wire and the shock snapped the top 6" or so off my rod. well worth the low cost IMO. |

| These rods are ok not really made for muskie baits and wear and tear imo
Go for one of the lines that are more species specific
Lots of god rods out there in the 120 range |

| I picked one up. Seems decent for the price. If this seems to be something that I want to pursue further then I will look at a TI or St croix rod and a bigger reel. Thanks the the input. |

| So I ordered my rod online and had it shipped to store for pickup. I walk in to grab it and look at some tackle and I decided to check out what rods they had in store for this time of year. Low and behold they had a tourney trail 8' HF on the rack. They priced matched their website and $75 to $30 and returned the 7'6 HF at the pickup desk. Impressions - the trigger on the reel seat is not my favorite and I will have to keep an eye on the reel seat tightness I think, but for $30 I am impressed. They also had a couple 7'6" XHF on the shelf too. |

Agreed that they seem very nice for only $30. |
