| Does anyone have any experience with this rod and reel and If so what are your thoughts on it? I noticed it has a line capacity of 175 yards of 17lb. test, does anyone use line that light?
Would the Abu Garcia C5 series be a better way to go? The reason I ask these question is I have a cheap spinning outfit I've used for Muskie fishing and was wanting to upgrade. All input appreciated.

I own one of the rods and one of the reels, I do not use them as a combo, so far no problems. I have heard they are pretty good setups for the money.
The reels are built on Flueger (spelling) tooling and the rods are ok. parts for reels or service is available through Bass Pro.
I think if you are multi-species angler who fishes muskies a few times a year this setup will do you just fine for many years.
I also run several of Abu's C4's and C5's...they are ok for the money as well but I have grown increasingly disinchanted over the years with the lack of quality being put into their drag systems. |

They give that listing of 175 yards of normal 17 lb test mono. 65 lbs test Power Pro is the same thickness as 18 lbs mono, if my memory is correct. So, you should be able to put an about 125 - 150 yards of a superbraid, with some backing behind it.

Location: Pewaukee, WI | I think they are a good combo for the money. The only problem I had was the weighted butt section on the rod broke off. They had problems with that at one time last year, but I believe that was rectified. Great customer service there. |

Location: N Illinois | I do not know anything about the combo's. It all depends on what you want out of your gear. I used Abu 6500's for years and the way I used them they were great. Now that i am out fishing 4 or 5 days a week, they arent as reliable as they once were ( extra usage).The $80 reals cant handle the added strain I am now putting on them. I have since upgraded to Calcutta's. Just remember the old saying, you get what you pay for. |

| Have one rod/reel combo and also another reel.
Never had a problem in 4 years of use.
I am sticking with my St Croix rods, but just purchased two more reels.
That makes 4 reels now. |

Location: Red House WV | I have the 7ft 2" Heavy action rod that I use for big baits. It's alright at best in my opinon . I have to keep tightning the reel seat & it's on the heavy side. The weights would not stay screwed in so I never use them anymore. So I only use it if my friends are using my other rods. For the money I think you would be better off with another rod. I hear alot of good things about the Tony Rizzo rods, that go by another name this year & i can't recall their name. The last rod I bought was a Falcon 6ft. 10 inch rod to use for my bigger baits & I like it very much. Paid about $100 & ordered it from Thorne Brothers. Stout light tough rod for the money. |

Location: Chicago, IL | Just some FYI on the "broken rod" footage. Pete was prototyping the rods at the time... He was still tweaking the balance and tip strength etc.
I can assure everyone that he corrected any issues with the rods before they were released. |

Location: Woodstock, IL | Esoxmaximus - I've got a Rizzo 7' musky/pike rod and love it. It's been a great bucktail rod; however a bit limp for big cranks. Over the holidays I got the Avid heavy action 7'6" model for those. |

| Wow great responses, thanks all. After reading what everyone has to say I think my best bang for the buck will be a combo from Cabela's. They have a C5 series Abu Garcia mated up with their Fish EagleII Muskie rods. Anyone have any opinions on the Fish Eagle II series? I've heard good things about them in the past. Thanks all
