Judging from this picture, where is the best place to mount the lss-2 transducer?

Ceter-line of the boat, on flat horizontal surface in front of the motor.

I have mine to he right of my motor on the step. My conventional ducer is off the pad. I was glad that mine was good to go on it's first mount, but I know a lot of guys that have had issues with it. If you're uncertain of a good location, I suggest mounting it with 3M 4200 (NOT 5200!) and giving it a shot. Take it out, run it around the dock and have the area marked. The 4200 should hold it for you and up on the step, it'd be out of the water while on plane, but if you aren't comfortable leaving it mounted with 4200 only for a day on the water, you can reach down and "rip" it off and stow it back in the splashwell and when you get home, the marking location is marked.

May take a few trips to the lake, but it's better than drilling a dozen holes in your boat to find out. If I where you to start with, I'd put it right next to your conventional ducer. Check the turning radius of your motor to make sure it clears, but mine sits just to the right of my motor with no issues and no interference.

Nolan, what the guys said about the step. Mine is almost perfectly centered on the step. Works perfect for me.

When you mean "step" do you mean the flat area above the plug and right under the motor?

Yes. The plug and livewell ports are just above the "pad." That's what the boat sits on while on plane. The step is the "stepped" up area aft of the pad, in front of the motor. The transom comes up off the step. The set back is the furthest aft part of your transom where the motor actually mounts.

My LSS-1 is mounted alongside the big motor, I don't think it makes a difference if it's a 1 or 2. It's worked perfectly there for two years.

Judging by that picture it looks like my skimmer transducer might interfere with the lss-2. Or is that little bit nothing to worry about?

It's been a while and I'm not sure, but seem to remember Lowrance didn't want those transducers located close to each other (definitely check that out before mounting). If you don't have a kicker, you could locate the LSS-2 on the opposite side (can't tell from the picture).

I bought that boat used and the existing skimmer transducer was located right where the LSS-1 is now. I moved the skimmer to same location on the opposite side as a backup, then added a shoot through the hull transducer for the LCX 113 that I run along side the HDS (I only use my HDS for structure scan, weather, and GPS back-up).

Hope this helps, good luck.

I wouldn't sweat it. If you want LSS to overlay on your conventional graph screen, the ducers need to be within 2' of each other. They're fine, and I wouldn't worry about that. You can have interference with two conventional transducers mounted in close proximity, but not a 2D and a LSS.

What I meant is my skimmer ducer hangs down aways. If I eyeball both sides of the lss-2 it apoears a small amount of the skimmer ducer will be in the way and possibly get in the way of the side scan. Thank you for the other input

Your thinking is right on that because I can clearly see my down rod baits if I submerge the rods while trolling (it also picks up a little bit of interference (non-issue) on the port side only when it’s running).

I don't think it will be a problem though like Esoxfly says, and even if it is you could always move the skimmer later.

Yeah, wouldn't sweat it too much. Even if it was totally blacked out behind the skimmer, the amount of screen shot that you'd lose would barely be visible; if at all. If you've ever seen LSS on the screen, you'll see that there's a foot or two (depending on what range you're on) of clutter at the surface of the water. The LSS ducer will still see bottom and out to the side just fine.
