How about some funny stories of stupid occurrences on the water during 2002.

I'll start.

This one is funny now because nobody got hurt.

I was fishing on the Fox Chain with a neighbor whom I had never fished with before. We got to the landing at about 5am and there was considerable fog. As we started out accross Channel lake, I was asked how often I fish these waters. Well generally I am out there at least every other weekend. As we motored through the fog my fishing partner for the day asked if I knew where we were going. Visibility in the fog was negligible. I said "oh yeah about another couple hundred yards ahead is the shore line with a nice weed edge where we will start." Approximately 10 seconds later I beached by boat on the shore line. I was going about 10 MPH. Nobody was hurt (thank god) but the captain of the boat was pretty embarrassed. Of course since the partner for the day was a neighbor I am still hearing about it and my neighbor has refused to fish with me again. To make matters worse we did not see a fish all day.

I fell off the dock trying to hold on to my boat before tying it up. I found out the water was wet.

My very first day in MN I was driven around the lake in the dark for an hour while my guide looked for the boat landing. Not so embarassing for me, but had we stopped fishing a little earlier, we could have found it easily because there was a full moon out earlier in the evening. [;)]

Hi Gang,
I was drunk and trying to impress the group up at Cass Lake with my exlosive gaseous exceretions, and accidentally crapped my pants. Luckily I was still wearing my Goretex from a cold and windy afternoon out on Cass Lake.

Oh, wait a minute, that wasn't me. It was Steve "Slim Shady" Cady!!

Merry Christmas ya big galoot!

Just after an early afternoon rain had made the bottom of the boat slippery, I set the hook on a good fish. Midway through the hookset I slipped and fell over backwards. My friend, who was fishing out of the front of the boat, heard the commotion and profanity and turned around to see what was going on. He didn't laugh, smile, or start making jokes, but simply shook his head in disgust and threw out another cast like nothing had happened. Nothing was said about the incident for the rest of the day. I thought he had forgotten about it until the drive home when he started laughing uncontrollably and cracking jokes. At least he allowed me to fish the rest of the day with dignity (or what little I had left).

Keep your hooks sharp.

My most embarassing moment this year would have to be when i was trying to push the boat on the trailer straight when loading up and fell in head first. Luckily it was 6am and only a few people were around. Also, although nobody saw this, I had my corsair engage in mid cast and had my rod fly out of my hands and 10 feet in front of me in the lake. Luckily it floated.

Mine was our first trip of the year. My dad put a lure on a dock. We went to get it and when my dad put power to the trolling motor, it started to swing the rear of my boat into the dock. I reached out with my foot to push off right when my dad put a burst of speed to the motor. My foot did not meet the dock but went into the water. I was over the side going in as somehow I flung myself back into the boat. My foot went under the dock and my leg got caught on the side of the boat. My leg and/or ankle should have snapped under the pressure, luckily only severe bruises. I tried to get up but I could not. I landed on a couple of lures and my a$$ was hooked to the carpet. I could not get up without my dad's assistance. If I did not have insulated pants on, those trebles would have been in my a$$.

Jason,

No problem, and no apologies required. I look at it this way. 1. It allowed me to get to Webbs for the Fried Egg and Ham samiches. Yum Yum. 2. If you had been on time, we probably would have been too early for the feeding window, and missed all those fish![]

What started out to be a boat ride, turned into a great day fishing with you and Krappie, and the Extreme One, his Bro, and Mark S.

Cave Run Spring outing with Mauser and TomyV in the boat, down by the dam. Getting late, time to head home. The Merc motor won't start, won't crank, nothin. Took the trolling motor the remainder of the battery power to crawl us back to the dock. Got home to trouble shoot the problem. Hooked up the motor to the hose and muffs, asked my kid to get in and see if it starts. He looks around for a second and says, "Dad, it won't start without the kill switch connected!" He plugged it in and it fired right up. Then, the little bugger threatens to go on MuskieFirst boards and tell all my new buddies about it unless I buy him off. m[]

I was fishing by myself on this nice windy spring day.I took my shoes off at the landing to unhook the winch(forgot to unhook) when the water was still pretty cold.Well the ramp was a slick one and I slid down the ramp and tried to grab the top of the boat and missed. I slid until I was waist deep and grabbed the trailer.I own a van(extra closet most of the time) so I had a pair of thin sweats and put my rainpants over them. I then drive across the Lake to a small deep bay and started casting with the wind.I then realize there is a Rock bar coming up almost immediately. I grab the paddle and it was too late- The 1 foot waves pushed me up on the rocks. I had the trolling motor on high and pushed and pushed for about 5 minutes to get the SOB off.I then went to the Ramp and called it a day after about an hour from the time I got there. I double checked everything before I left.

This was pretty funny. I had bought some garlic smelling jell type fish attractant(a real secret of the pro's the add in my email read.)I spread some on & within 20 minute's land a Cave Run 30incher.Now the add for this stuff brags about how long lasting it is. Sometime later I place my nose up to this medium size glow tail BullDawg that I had modified with an extra treble hook in the middle to make sure it still had enough of this good stuff on it. Well my partner for the day is no more 179lbs overweight & not the quickest or most nimble partner as I asked for help in getting the treble hooks out of my nose! By the time he got in postion to assist me I worked the lure out. It was funny walking around with a bulldawg for a mustache. !

did mine while catfishing. sat back on a little folding chair I take to catfish and when it tore I thought nothing of it and leaned back. I could hear my brother-in-law laughing before my head hit the water as he said I did a perfect back flip into the water. He thought I was hot and did it on purpose. It was warm, but I didn't want to go swimming.

Nothing to serious...it was late October went fishing a new lake we me and the dog. Dropped the boat in the water and parked the truck, I had to walk about 50 yards back to the lake. Notice the boat was sitting a little low and jump in. Right about that time I seen the water coming out from rear casting deck. Pulled the boat to shore hot foot to the truck and boat the boat on the trailer. You should of seen the look on my chocolate labs face.
