Posts: 2331 Location: Chisholm, MN | I gotta say, I've been fishing Lake of the Woods and other big fish lakes in search of a 30 inch walleye and the best I can come up with is 29.75! Great job! I am supper jealous. I'm going up there tomorrow for the day to try again. Gotta be back in time to see the Vikes dominate the Packers though

Great job! I am supper jealous. I'm going up there tomorrow for the day to try again. Gotta be back in time to see the Vikes dominate the Packers though :) You and me both bud! I've been fishing for that fish for 25 yrs on all the great walleye waters ...LOTW, Rainy, Miller Lacs, Leech, Red, St Louis river....best I could ever come up with is 27.5"! Here's the cool part of the story: so were sitting there and its about 515 pm, and if ya know LOTW, there isn't much of a night bite. So were playing cards n having a drink when I look over at my vexilar and are a large mark suspended 15' down over 30' of water. I grabbed my rod and brought the jig up to the mark and smack, I set and miss, I could feel that I lost my minnow so I tell her to grab her jig rod and drop it down as I'm keeping this "mark" interested with my bare jig. So as she drops her bait down I crank mine up. Couple twitches later and whack! 30.5" pig of a walleye. Super happy for her but us it stings a little Edited by bdog 1/4/2013 8:25 PM

Great fish. Family member moved to International Falls last year and got invited to ice fish by a co-worker. He said they didn't get anything but fished in shirt sleeves, while watching a 40 inch flat screen. He said that is pretty common on Rainy Lake. Some even have a bar built into the fish house.

Posts: 142 | Awesome fish. I have only caught one walleye in my life and it was a good one 28.25. I actually ate that fish (foul hooked/bad release). I caught it by accident trolling for musky, 8lb walleye vs 80 lb braid and calcutta wasn't much of a challenge. Kinda felt like a boot.
