I have never even laid eyes on the lake, so any and all tips and info would be greatly appreciated. I am going with two guys that have been there only once. We are going to be fishing the American side. They trolled last year and got two Muskies and lost a good one. They mentioned using the 17th Street boat ramp. What areas should we concentrate on near this ramp??? What baits and colors to troll???? Are there any nice Tackle Shops with a wide variety of lures that we could pick up a few of the Hot baits for the lake??? We only have four days to fish so hopefully someone here on the site can provide some info so we don't end up with a big goose egg for the trip. Thanks so much in advance. Feel free to email me at [email protected] if you like.
Thanks,
Roger Bullard

Roger, when are you going? thats the first important piece of information, fish are in different locations and different depths depending on time of year . I've been fishing the lake about 4 years now, its a rough learning curve! Some local baits are lokees, ziggies , willeys , find them on line and order them sometimes takes a while to get them. some common colers are 9 $ bass,St lawerence, black perch , and walleye. every time i thik ive got it figgured out ,im wrong

Hi Roger,
Get a bunch of MX6's from Muskie Train. We caught more over 50" on them last year than any other crank we used. Masons are good cranks there also

The best tip of all is this - hire Spencer Berman. And make the call quickly! His open days fill up faster than my empty beer mug!

Roger,
I just sent you an email. I just got back from St. Clair and will be going back up next week. Let me know when you are going. It was slow with the cold front going through, but we got 4 Sunday evening including a double header. We got 2 40s and 2 35s. Monday we got 2 40s.

Thanks,
Greg

Thanks Jim. The fishing has been good out here. The wind early has made for some rough rides but if you can stay on your feet the fishing has been worth it. We have been averaging 6 a day with 1 over 50 in the first 4 days (casting). Good luck to you and if you need some tips give me a call.

From what I see and hear all the way from n.mn., is...... all that you will ever need is a bulldawg, a Bondy bait ,....... a Cain pole,..... a six pack of your favorite ,rank Canadian Beer and a few Baloney sandwiches and you should be able to put about 15-20 muskies in the boat a day..........

Sounds like fun,.....I need to plan a trip there............ Or Not!

Get ahold of Jason at the Michigan Muskie Shop. He's the best selection of baits on the lake, including the Muskie Trains.

But yeah, it's like Jerome said, muskies are litterally sitting in line at the boat ramp waiting for you to catch them. Some fish even skip the actual fishing and just follow your boat around waiting for you to net them!

If you need to find a spot to fish, just look for the flotilla of muskie boats and go jump in with them. Last few days, it's been up in the bay off Salt River...saw 14 boats in about 4 acres there last night. It's a huge lake and supposedly tons of room, but 95% of the fishermen are in a few spots.

Roger - Not sure where the 17th street boat ramp came from. Not one on LSC I am aware of.

MI-DNR has 5 ramps on the lake. Starting at the north end, and working around the shoreline to the west.
1) Anchor Bay Drive Public Access (dumps you in the North Channel where it meets LSC)
2) Fair Haven Public Access (north end of Anchor Bay, Palms Rd/M29)
3) Rosso Hwy Public Access (aka Selfridge Ramp. M59/I94-ish)
4) Harley Ensign Public Access (end of Clinton River, on South River Rd)
5) Crocker Public Access (Jefferson/Crocker - closest public access to the mile rds)

There are a few small ramps, private & city owned (Brandenburg, 11 mile rd, Blossom Heath & 9 mile rd). Best to use the MI-DNR ramps.

As far as pressure. Shrug it off. There are tons of places to choose from. Lake is approx 28 miles x 26 miles, so talking in acres is quite laughable. Plenty of places to go, no need to sit on each other. Also sharing the waters with 1000s of bass, perch & walleye anglers. Never seems to be a problem for me.

Regards
Scott
