Subject: Revo Toro 60 Winch Reel

Thinking of purchasing a Revo Toro 60 Winch Reel for fishing cowgirls, bulldawgs, and other hard cranking baits. Is this reel for me or should I be looking at something else?

Thanks,
FishinGuy

I use the 5:4 and HS for dawgs and blades and no issues. Honestl I like them better than my salstist.

If you are going to spend a lot of time cranking cowgirls, there are better options.

This reel also unloads half its volume on a cast. Part of the reduced load in reeling is due to the fact that early in the retrieve you are NOT picking up as much line as you do in the second half of the retrieve(on a per revolution basis).

Good reel though, just not the best for heavy cranking.

"This reel also unloads half its volume on a cast." - How far do you cast????

The Revo Winch works great for hard pulling baits. I picked one up this past summer and love it.
Fit it on a Thorne Bros. Heavy Preditor rod and your set!

the 60 size does not unload half it's volume..not even close... they do make a super small winch that a buddy has that looks like maybe it is a bass reel ..it is blue and looks just like the 60 Winch but the thing is tiny....maybe you mistakenly are thinking of that one?
I have a Toro Winch (musky size one) and like it...it is a good reel for slow rolling blades....not a great reel as others have said for dawgs as I would prefer a reel to pick up more line...the power handle is a dissapointment as it really doesn't provide much more power over the standard double paddle handle...but the reel is low profile, light and I have it on a 9' Sling blade and it's a great combo for what I use it for....

A 60 winch is great for pulling large blades. Since switching to a REVO for this, i have actually enjoyed fishing with large blades. It tows them better than any reel i have right now witch includes calcuttas, st Croixs, okumas. pair it with the right rod, and you will be able to throw them more without fatique.

Definitely a nice reel for big blades or anything that pulls hard. I don't use it for dawgs, doesnt pick up enough line.

The Toro 60 has basically the same size spool as a 6500, Calcutta 400, Penn 975, etc. I never heard of a problem with casting off to much of the line on any of those reels. If you went with the 50 size I could see a problem possibly but with the super lines today I don't even think that would be an issue.

I run my spools 3/4 full I can cast a Toro 60 below half spool easily with a dawg or blades. Put a hellhound on I can get close to the backing.

Yah that makes a lot of sense. Don't fill the spool. Brilliant!

I normally don't reply to guest posts, other than to take shots at them, but THAT was funny!!

I've used the winch for double 10s, and the regular revo Toro 5.4:1. Once you've used the winch, you'll never go back to the 5.4:1 for big blades. As for dawgs? I guess it depends on how you work them, but I'm with BN - I want something that picks up more line than a low gear ratio reel. Too much cranking between pulls with the winch.

I also agree with BN on the "power handle"... That's not a power handle, it's the same as the double paddle handle.

Shaley? Why do you run your spools 3/4 full?

If you completely fill revo's then you get this:

I'm not sure if it causes any problems but I fill mine up as much as I can and stop just before that happens.

Near the end of the season thats just where they are at. The HS got resooled this morning, works great for blades.
