now that muskie season is kicking into full gear, what are the key things that you've done (or should do!) before hitting the water? fishing gear? boat checks? etc...

Posts: 16632 Location: The desert | Put the plug in.....missed that essential ingredient the other day, darn near sunk the boat. Oh yeah, repair the bilge pump wires, luckily the jimmy rigging we did worked.

Posts: 8824 | 1. Clean & Lubricate reels 2. New line 3. Check all line guides If I had a boat? I'd be checking all my trailer lights, making sure the tires are properly inflated and in good shape, making sure everything in the boat still works, batteries charged, terminals clean and tight, no leaking fuel lines, etc. But I don't, sooo.... Other than the fact that all of my gear is still in the same pile where I left it last November, I am good to go! ![]()

i've tested all the big stuff in the boat, but have to stop and buy another lifejacket today. all the release tools are in the boat. i reversed or put new line on all my reels, plus new Stealth leaders on each one. just have to sharpen a couple more hooks...

Posts: 13688 Location: minocqua, wi. | i always run the fogging oil out of the jugs by starting and running it in the driveway with the hose for awhile so i have all the power and operational crap understood well before backing down the ramp. otherwise go nose to tail on it with a little dry-run making sure everything works and that there are no extras (critters) either in the boat or showing they were there over the storage months. life jackets air horns then load the plano trays full of all the stuff only problem this year is that when i went to check the truck hitch and lighting etc... i remembered that it's still in the shop getting repaired from the factory installed defect i get to plough through. so, boat works great, trailer is in great shape and no rig to pull it with ... looks like more time on the golf course for this weekend.
