Posts: 619 | can be trolled way behind the boat say (greater than 100 ft behind the boat) that would run less than 10 ft deep. Looking for shallow running crank that i can long line, instead of short lining them? Thanks

Looking for shallow running crank that i can long line, instead of short lining them? Thanks - most St Clair baits will be 10' or less on 100' of line (Talonz, Woody, Wiley, etc.) - If you are just trying to get away from the boat because you think you are spooking fish then a set of inline boards may also get you what you are looking for. - run heavier line 50# mono will liimit the depth of the lures Edited by Will Schultz 3/25/2009 2:47 PM

Posts: 1887 Location: syracuse indiana | i second that , will is right on the money.. here on indiana waters. the fish are so used to all the boat traffic that most of us shortline it here. they just move a little out of the way and they see the bait and then strike.. . i like using ss shads and hoosier baits and smallcranes and kickin minnows and of coure big game 's.. i use them the most....bill

Posts: 619 | yeah, was looking at Krisco, says 0-8 ft trolled, i was just wonderng how much line would out at that depth? i have bought some lures that say that depth, then when you get em out and let more line out they dive way deeper. I have a stalker that goes down about 10 ft w/ about 40ft of line out, but when 100ft it goes about 17ft deep, too deep.

Posts: 2687 Location: Hayward, WI | Shallow Invader, Shallow Raider? I haven't tried to see if they stay under 10 feet with 100 ft out, but I would guess that they might. I would think using heavy line would help also like Will said. curleytail

Posts: 223 Location: Minn. | Kenslures from the Basement Baits and Custom Lure Painting forum has some nice MuskieBurger shallow lures. I've used Legend Outcast lures with great success. Talonz Little Claw and Slasher lures are great also. And don't overlook Super D's, and Curly Sues for trolling.

Posts: 3240 Location: Racine, Wi | Will brought up a great point that will definitely help keep some of those baits running higher. Run some 50# mono to keep the baits running higher. The larger diameter will limit the depth you're getting with those baits. I would run some of the baits mentioned that the St Claire boys run, and run them on a heavy line to keep them up. Should work well for your application.

Posts: 4266 | I love Slashers and Talonz for shallow trolling. Mike makes awesome cranks. Don't forget Lokes in that list of St Claire lures.

Why not 6" Jake or 6" Grandma?
