Anyone try this reel out yet. I love the smaller version. How much larger is it? What size baits would you throw with it?>
Thanks

I just recently got a 300 and so far love it. Mostly throw glides with it but tried DCG's on it today just to see how it would handle them and I had no problems with it handeling them. I know most will say to high of gearing but I'll see how well it lasts.

i've got 2 that i've been using the last 2 seasons.
i came very very close to buying another today when i was at Thorne's.
they've quickly become my go-to for everything i throw with the exception of the oversized bucktails.
i work them pretty hard, so far they've been without a single issue.
great reel.

Lambeau,

I'm looking at picking up that reel for my dad as the low profile will help him out. How do you think this reel will handle say 2oz spinnerbaits with Colrado blades? Also, you you think pulling DC-9's might be asking too much?

my experience with it has been that it's plenty strong enough to bring in big blades without getting wrecked like many other reels and brands that i've used, and i have in fact used one of my Curados from time to time slow-rolling big stuff.
it's just when i want a normal to fast retrieve that it becomes a bit more work than i like and i reach for something with lower gearing and a bigger spool instead. i do use one of them for smaller bucktails, including double-8s, and it can really burn them in fast when needed.
as Sorno and i were talking about this week, more and more for me the way to tell a good reel is if it says "Shimano" on the side.

After spending a few days using one of lambeau's I have come to the conclusion that these are not only good reels, but VERY good reels. If I had the money immediately available, I would get one without hesitation. I had the opportunity to blow up 2 reels of a different brand name in the process of coming to this bit of enlightenment...

Since I don't have the money available, I'm going a bit of a different direction. Let the experiments begin.

So I see that Shimano is discontinuing the D line and introducting the E line. What's the difference?

Looks like the new 300 E has some minor cosmetic differences, and 1 more BB. Weight , gear ratio, and price remain the same. The new 200E is very different from the old 200D, and slightly cheaper too.

I use, and can recommend Tuf XP.
