Posts: 185 Location: Mendota Heights, MN | Running a 200 khz transducer on the back of a new Lund 1750 Fisherman. It is mounted on a plate on the transom. It is located more than one foot from the motor. It is connected to a Lowrance 112C GPS/Sonar combo. All the latest updates are installed on the 112c. My problem is that I get very inconsistent performance from the unit. Sitting still, drifting, low speed, high speed, sometimes it works and I get a usable signal, sometimes it does not. It was mounted by the dealer and it looked to me like it was mounted correctly. Since it was performing so poorly I asked them to move it down a bit which they did. The puck now sits below the bottom of the transom yet i still have the same problems. My 520C that uses the transducer in the trolling motor works flawlessly. No, I am not getting signal overlap as the problems exist even when the front unit is off. I can post a few pics of the mounting later today if that helps. I have tried adjusting sensitivity etc. to no avail. I have a fair amount of experience with these units but am stumped. I can only think it is: 1) bad wiring 2)bad transducer 3) bad mounting (perhaps the hull on this boat requires a different mounting strategy to overcome the hull rivets?) Any insight or past experience would be appreciated. Steve

Location: Athens, Ohio | Since you are fortunate enough to have a dealer on the hook for this one, I'd be living at his doorstep until the prob was resolved. good luck with it, m

Posts: 185 Location: Mendota Heights, MN | If the dealer was actually out my doorstep believe me I would be living on his. However the dealer is 50 min drive and hauling a boat that far back and forth is, well, cost prohibitive. steve

Location: Athens, Ohio | Does the present location of the 'ducer line up with what your instruction book recommends for placement? Seems a bit close to the outboard for my tastes, but I don't know how it sits in the water. Could it also just be a bad transducer? m

Location: Athens, Ohio | Any of this help? Permanent Mount Transducer The transom mount transducer can be installed on any outboard or stern-drive (inboard\outboard) powered boat. The "kick-up" mounting bracket helps prevent damage if the transducer strikes an object while the boat is moving. If the transducer does "kick-up", the bracket can easily be pushed back in place without tools. Always read the transducer installation instructions that came with your unit carefully before attempting the installation. Determine which of the mounting positions is right for your boat. Use extreme care when mounting the transducer, since the transducer location is the most critical part of a sonar installation. If it isn’t done properly, the sonar can’t perform at it’s designed potential. Location 1. The transducer must be placed in a location that has a smooth flow of water at all times. If the transducer is not placed in a smooth flow of water, interference will show on the sonar’s display in the form of random lines or dots whenever the boat is moving. 2. The transducer should be installed with it’s face pointing straight down, if possible. 3. Make certain the transducer's location doesn’t interfere with the trailer or hauling of the boat. Also, don’t mount it closer than approximately one foot from the engine’s lower unit. This will prevent cavitation interference with the propeller. Typically, the transducer should be mounted as deep in the water as possible. This increases the chance that it will be in the water in high speed and reduces the possibility of air bubble interference. 4. If possible, route the transducer cable away from other wiring on the boat. Electrical noise from engine wiring, bilge pumps, and aerators can be displayed on the sonar’s screen. Use caution when routing the transducer cable around these wires. Posts: 185 Location: Mendota Heights, MN | Thanks Mikie, been through that stuff. Just got off phone with Lowrance, they say bad ducer, send it back:( Proving to be a real pain getting it out of the boat. steve

| Phoenix, I had similar issues with a pair of 113's. My partner also had issues with his 110. I finally replaced both transducers on my boat this last weekend, both puck on trolling motor and skimmer on back. Mine seemed to work fine last fall and the only change was updates over the winter(2.3). Any ways after changing both transducers everything seems to work again. My partner also changed transducer and his works now as well. I'm not sure if the updates can effect the transducers, doubt it, but there is a rash of transducers going out. I've heard of others as well. Up until now I have never had to replace a transducer on any of my units over the years and now two in the same week. I'm glassing in an extra one "Just in Case"!!! Hope it works out, let us know Dean | |||

Posts: 141 | My guess is there is a break in the wiring on the transducer, could you borrow another transducer to eliminate it? I had a similar problem where the unit started to have intermittant problems until it finally went altogether, all because the transducer had a fault. Dave Edited by DaveG 6/6/2008 5:48 PM

Posts: 743 | I'm also having trouble with mine. It didn't work at all where Lund installed it. I moved it closer to the motor but made sure it was right between the "ips rails" on the bottom. It worked fine all year there. Now this year at speed all it does is flash, less than 10 ft all it does s flash. I called Lowrance but waited on hold for a half hour and lost patience, gave them my name ,number but haven't been called back yet. They better soon.

Posts: 185 Location: Mendota Heights, MN | Lowrance just sent me a new transducer, didn't even ask for the old one back, and I installed it and it works like a champ. Only slight issue is poor performance at or over 38mph is poor due to prop cavitation from tilting the motor up high to max rpm's and speed, but I can live with that. Thanks for all the thoughts and suggestions. I am guessing Lowrance had a bad batch of transducers out there, but as usual, apart form the long hold time, their customer service people came through. Posts: 743 | Finally got through to Lowrance. She said I need a new transducer and she will send me one but I'll have to pay for it since I'm out of warrenty. No way,She tried to tell me that my warrenty ran out in March. I told her that was impossible because I didn't even buy the boat and package until June. Does the warrenty start when the dealer puts it on his shelf,I don't think so. She finally relented and agreed to cover it under warrenty.
