i just switched from aol to sprint dsl with earth link. i also had to switch to the firfox web browser. can anyone tell me how to set it up so when i go to a web site from the home page it opens a new window or so when i am on one web page and go to another site it opens in a new window.
the way its set up now i have to hit the back button a million times, and i cant jump from one page right to the other, if that makes any sense.
i know this isnt muskie related but i'm about ready to shoot this thing!!
any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

if what you're trying to do is manually jumping between websites (ie., you're at MuskieFirst and want to glance at CNN without closing M1st):
"File"
"New Tab"
type the address into the address bar of the newly opened tab

This is just a different way to do what Lambeau said.
On the tab you have open right now, right click on it and select open new tab. Type in the web address you want see. you now have two tabs. Repeat this process as many times as you like with your favorite or most common pages you visit and then you can save them all as your home pages. To save them as your homepage, tools > options > general, in the home page box, select "use current pages" button then click ok. Now every time you open firefox all the pages you chose will open and you can toggle back and forth between each tab (window). Hope this helped.

thanks guys, i'll give that a try. man aol was SIMPLE compared to all this.
i've got something really screwed up now. it told me to reboot, when i did it said it couldnt open windows because a file was missing, rebooted a few more times and all of a sudden it worked again. so obviously i have something pretty messed up, and when i try to call customer support i cant understand a word they say! (figuratively and literally)

still no luck.
maybe i can explain it better. with aol i could type a web address into the browser and it would open in a new window that was "on top" of the start page. i could then type another address into the browser and it would open that site in a 3rd window that was "on top" of the other 2. to go back and forth between sites i could just adjust the top window so a corner of the window underneath was exposed, and then to switch i could just click on the exposed part. then to close out of any given site i could go to the upper right corner of the window and click the red "x" and close that window out.
the way it is now, when i go to a sight it opens it in the same window as my start page. then if i go to a second site it opens it in that same window. and so on and so on. then to close out a site i have to use the back button all the way back to the start page. if i click on the red "x" button it closes down the whole firefox browser, and disconnects me from the net.

am i making any sense?

forgot to add, maybe it is something else that i have set wrong. when i scroll down the screen like here in this forum, the screen "disappears" behind the tool bar as it scrolls down. maybe the buttons for each window is hidden behind the tool bar?

What you're wanting to do is exactly like lambeau said. You can do the same thing your talking about by opening new tabs.

In the upper left hand corner left click "File".
In the drop down menu left click "New Tab".
You'll open a new browser window listed as (Untitled). But, you will still have only one session of Firefox open. Type the address you want and hit enter. Now you should have 2 tabs listed. The one to the far left should be the original site you were at. The next one to the right should be the 2nd address you typed in. You can open as many tabs as you want by doing this.

When you go to close down any given Tab, click the red "X" on the right upper portion of the screen.
Clicking the gray/black "X" in the far upper right closes down all the tabs at once. It will verify with you that's what you want to do if you have more than one tab open.
As far as clicking on links, it should open a new window when you click a link. At least that's the way mine has worked since I got it.

FireFox is not AOL and vice versa. I think I know what you want to do but don't think you can do it on FireFox exactly like you did on AOL.

I switched from IE to FireFox and after a getting aquainted period, I really like the FireFox.

Did you try what I suggested, it will do exactly what you are asking just a different way than AOHell.

Here is a shot of what I am talking about. The red ovals are circling the different tabs (windows) that you can toggle back and forth.

Glad we were able to help. CPU's/software can be frustrating to say the least.
