Posts: 726 Location: Eau Claire, WI | The Rod & Gun landing on Lake Wissota came alive this morning with the first planting of Mississippi Strain Muskies. The fish averaged 11" in length. All fish were fin clipped and 50 of them received PIT tags courtesy of WDNR biologist Joe Kurz. By all accounts, this "event" was a great success. We had 50 people present ranging in age from 4 to 64. We received assistance from a group of DeLong middle school students who were very enthused to get some field experience especially on such a beautiful day. Media coverage included Dave Carlson (northland journal tv) and both Eau Claire Leader Telegram and Chippewa Herald newspapers. I will post photos when I have them available. We would like to thank Joe Kurz of the WDNR for his assistance in putting our chapter's plan in motion and we look forward to working hand in hand into the future. We would also like to thank the WMRT for opening this door of opportunity. Personally, I'd like to recognize Fred Johnson for his hard work in coordinating this effort. Thanks Fred! Sincerely, Jon Olstadt VP - First WI Chapter of Muskies Inc. Gerard, I'm not sure where they put them. I will find out and let you know Monday. Jono

Gerard The pit tags went just under the skin alongside the dorsal fin. Same location you would look for a floy tag. The left pectoral fins were clipped to aid in identification as they are recaptured either by the WI DNR or anglers. I would also like to thank Joe Kurz, WI DNR Chippewa County Fisheries Biologist and the 2 DNR field staff that showed up today to help with this project. It was nice to see all the youngsters getting involved. There were smiles on every face this morning. Fred J

No doubt that it was a fantastic Day. I've been a Muskies Inc. member since the late 80's and have never seen a Muskies Inc. Project generate as much excitement as this one. The best part of it was watching the kids have a chance to participate in this project. It will be these kids that benfit the most from this project. It makes me proud to be a member of the 1st Wisconsin Chapter of Muskies Inc. Bob Benson

Friday was the most excited I have ever seen club members yet at Lake Wissota and none of us were even fishing that day. Its great to have a guy like Joe Kurz working for the DNR who was willing to work with our club to make this happen. A huge thanks goes out to Joe for letting our club stock these large growing mississippi strain fish in his area and for supplying the 50 pit tags. We are looking forward to working with Joe in the coming years to stock more of these fish. Great job everyone. Eric Johnson
