I have been hearing bits about some muskie action already in 2002. Heard that Greg Thomas caught three fish this week on the Cave.

Anyone else catching fish right now.

Boy I wish I had a season open all year long.[;)]

Went out yesterday, saw a 46 and a 48" tiger, a few little ones....too bad it was at Bass Pro. Closest I will get to a real one for a few weeks I think.

Went out to Evergreen lake in Bloomington, IL yesterday afternoon. Fished from 2 till dark. Didn't see anything. It was great to get on the water and throw some new baits. We casted for about two hours, then trolled. I need to take back my new C5 already, not working right. Water temp varied from 33-39. How would you guys have fished these temps?

Looks like winter weather will be back by the end of the week, it was nice while it lasted.

Doc,
I'm no pro....but I would have considered 3 factors: A. water temps B. rising temps C. forage size and type. Going backwards: figuring that E-green is Shad based, unless I'm off on this, I would have looked for schools of shad (dont know if they are in the shallower, warmer water, or cruising the open water) with the electronics and then once I found them, thrown baits from 6"-10" (a gizzard shad can be up to and above 21") in shad colors (silver and white...depending on water clarity). Thinking that the temps where low, I would have started with slow retrieves....but knowing that the temps are rising, I might have gone with with some faster retrieves, thinking that the fish might be a bit super-charged by the rising temps. I don't troll, but had I been out there, I might have, really more as a means to find the schools of shad. And then done like I would have done with retrieve speeds, varying from slow (barely working the baits) to faster. Just some thougths.

Thanks Slamr,

We did not see any signs of schooling shad or baitfish. Could not cvoer too much water because of 10hp limit.

Hope to get out there again this spring, I'll let you know if I have any better luck.

Going to Shelbyville Memorial Day weekend, would you expect this ti hold true at Shelbyville also?

Later,

Doc

Missed two fish this morning on stream "y". It was 65 degrees and I had to blow off work and get out. One was a small one, the other was approximately low 40's. Both fish came off the same spot, a wind exposed shallow area adjacent to the deepest hole on the stream. Suprisingly enough, a small pike sized mepps bucktail tripped their trigger, go figure.

Got a 36"er sunday morning on a topraider. Found that strange, visited the spot 3 times, new the fish were there, but wouldn't hit anything. SO I threw on the topraider and nailed him on the first cast.

Well,,, it wasn't pretty weather wise Tuesday in central IL. The Weather Channel called for mostly cloudy sky's for the entire day and winds to 15,,,, right,,,
We had good cloud cover in the early am. and my partner hit one low 30" fish but as the cloud cover blew out and the winds picked up, so went the fish,,, a tough day.
water temp was 36*.
It's not often when you see ice fisherman at the same time your throwing baits.

the water temp was around 45. It has dropped since. When I caught the fish it was at the tail end of a 3 day warming trend, with a storm front moving in.
