Jonesi's post got me thinking about this one. Have you ever said this is the cast that wil catch a fish?

I did it last weekend, even knew the exact spot of my cast, sure enough a 36"er takes my hawaiisbest60 topwater. Lost it at the boat but it was fun to see something happen exactly as you call it.

I called the shot once. This was on a Little Fisher in Canada. It has a ton of muskies in it, but no size to them. There was this small weededge. First two casts produced nothing, and there was only one spot left to cast, so I figured the fish would be there. I told everyone, "I'm going to catch one this cast." I was almost halfway in when I had the fish strike. It was probably only a 24"-26" musky, but it still counts as "calling it". The cast after that, I had another one hit, but it shook off.

Last year at the MF Sabaskong trip I did it. Midway through the week JV and I were having a slow morning and hadn't really seen anything for several hours. We were working a small rock island and as we came around a point I noticed on the sonar that we were passing over a large rock pile. I told JV to take the spinner bait he was using and through it off the back of the boat, let it hit the bottom and to rip it up a couple of times. I then followed it up with "I bet you will catch a fish." Sure enough, the second time he ripped the bait up, he scored a nice 39" fish. It was pretty cool to call it.

Once, early spring using bass tackle we knew about a 40" hung out around a specific log. A fast moving storm rolled thru, and right after, the lake turned to glass. I put on a jitterbug and layed the cast perfectly just past the log. As soon as it came through, she hit it. As I was fighting her, she got wrapped around one of the sucker lines. My "buddy", instead of just freespooling the reel, tried to set the hook, and both lines snapped...

He went up a week later by himself and caught it and mounted it.

I've done it, and seen it done countless times. Did it on Sunday as a matter of fact. Of course, if you call your shot 30 times a day, your bound to be right on occasion.

I think I call my shot every time I throw a cast! My theory is that you have to "will" the fish to take the bait.

I have two stories.

This was uncanny and I still can’t believe it went down this way. I was fishing with Oneida Esox we had gone all night and hadn’t seen a fish. The sun had just dropped behind the trees, in my frustration I sat down and said to John, “What would Bucher do?” Then I remember a chapter from his book on jointed cranks. I said, “I have it.” I snapped on a jointed Shallow Raider sent the cast flying and the chain of events went something like this (everything in quotes is what I actually said as I did what I was describing) “she’s right there” the lure hit the water “now twitch, twitch….She’s getting excited….now crank it down for or five turns…twitch twitch… NOW EAT IT!” Right then I feel the bait stop dead, I set the hook and felt the fish. John almost took a dump in his pants as did I. At first we didn’t think it was big as it was coming at the boat, but as it went under the boat it kept going, heading for deep water, and nearly broke my rod as it wrapped under the boat and drag started whining. I said to John “holly #*#* this is a better fish”. As I kept the rod buried in the water and tried to walk around the back of the boat I felt the fish start to come up. Just then 44” of tiger musky came all the way out of the water it was about 3’ away from John at eye level in the front of the boat. I would have killed for a picture of that. John almost dumped in his pants for the second time in 10 seconds. We got the fish in the net and we both let out a loud yell of accomplishment. This fish is tied with two other fishing experiences as the best ever.

The second was Oneida calling his shot on his first LOTW’s fish. While sitting in church with his wife and daughters he looked at is watch and it read 9:00am, he said something like “next week at this time I will be catching my first Canadian fish.” We talked about this prediction on the way to Canada the next weekend. We hit the water that Sunday morning ready for action as our 3 hour excursion the night before had already shown us a couple of nice fish. It wasn’t long and John hooked into a decent fish we netted it and as we where taking pictures I looked at my watch 9:05am we both just looked at each other and shook our heads.

COINCIDENCE...... I THINK NOOOOT!

Not exactly calling the shot, but very similar. Last year on our LOTW trip on the last night conditions started to change. A storm was moving nearby and we saw clouds for the first time all week. My gut told me to hit an area so I made about a 10 mile run to a spot that was holding nice fish all week. The second cast on the spot resulted in a thick 48"er that ate a Top Raider. We boated another 43"er off the spot and moved about five other fish, all in the mid forties.

Todd,
I called the shot and got it right April 26th this year.
I was fishing with 2 guys who had never caught a muskie before, and we were fishing a weedline that has a point about halfway down it.
I told them IF we see a fish, it will come out of that point right in the middle.
I was fishing out of the back of the boat, and after they both had a few casts at the point, I told them " I guess I'll have to show you how to do it". I fired out my white Magic Maker and gave it a few snaps when this dark shadow came out right off that point.
The fish would rush up to the bait every time I jerked it, and after following it for about 15 feet, it ate it about 5 foot from the boat.
I poured the steel to it and the battle was on.
We were measuring and snapping some pictures just a minute later of a tagged 40 incher.
I got the information from the tag just today, and the fish was origionally captured below the spillway at Kinkaid in 1998. It was 34" in 1998 and 40" this year.
The guys with me couldn't beleive it, I preached figure 8's all day and told them to watch for follows, they were BELIEVERS after that fish put on a show.

Ok, I apologize in advance that this is a bass story, but it was clearly a call ahead of time.

It was opening weekend and me and Coach Bob and a couple others gathered as usual, up in Waupaca WI at my family's cottage. On the way up I stopped to get bait and grabbed the last Creek Chubb 6" pikie, and showed it to everyone explaining that I would be throwing it first under a particularly productive weeping willow tree.

Opening morning, first cast, I get spanked by ab0out a 4pound largemouth. It was cool, but again, not a musky.

Thanks,
Papa Joe

Not quite as dramatic as some, but I did call the shot once two years ago.

We were fishing my home lake and a storm was starting to roll in. Dad was getting scared because we had seen some lightning. I told him that we HAD to hit one more spot under these conditions (it is rught by the landing anyway). After about three casts on the spot my brother-in-law boated a 44 that i had missed on a jackpot two days earlier.

I do it quite a bit (multiple times per year) and I freak out friends and clients while at it, I guess I have a sixed sense or it's just a lot of experience. The way I do it most often is when we are trolling and I tell the client " well we're entering the kitchen so get ready" or while casting " if there's a big fish here she'll be right there".

Last fall I had this WI veteran in my boat as we were trolling a steep drop off, and I notice a fish on my Lowrance exacly at the depth of my inside lure and it reminded me of the fish I caught the week before. So I did a count down " 5-4-3-2-1 zzzzzzzzzzz" the fish hit right on cue, the client was reeling in the fish all the while shaking his head in disbelief. After we released the fish he looked at me and asked if I did this before.

Another time last August I had a familly of 5 come up for 4 days so I hired my buddy to guide for me. We basicly fished the same areas but never the same spot at the same time. But I had in mind on day 3 around 1 pm at the new moon peak that we would tag team this one spot as I knew a big fish would be caught. Well we went for lunch and I said we better hurry to make it to the spot on time, when we first got there I had a follow from a 40 incher and my buddy proceeded to troll by us and I told him " what are you doing?" I had been planning this tag team for days so that the familly can share in the experience. Well I forced him to stop and start casting and it took less then 10 minutes for the client in the front of his boat to catch a monster 54x24 fish. My buddy was so freaked I guess he didn't believe me all along that this would happen, I guess he'll believe me next time I predict a big fish catch.

Here's the best one yet, I had this southern WI angler back in '01 and he came to fish for a week with me. His first hour he caught a 45 incher casting and then another day I did the kitchen thing and he caught another 45 incher I think he got 5 or 6 around 45 inches and a 50 incher during his week so I nicknamed him mister 45. But on this one day things were slow so around 11 he says " at 4:30 this afternoon we will catch a 47 incher on that starbord rod" so naturaly I called his bluff and raised him 1 by saying " at 3:40 we will catch a 42 incher of the port rod". So here we are still not goten a bite and it's getting real close to 3:40 when I see the bottom come up on the fishfinder and I am thinking of snaging bottom to make the guy think we got a hit when I decide not to do it as he probably won't even hear it when all the sudden the port rod goes off making me think I got snagged, well i'll be #*^@ed if it wasn't another 45 inch muskie caught at 3:40 on the port rod. I had the time and rod he was close on the size.
