| What's the lake/river depth where you catch most of your muskies ? |

Location: oswego, il | This is relative to where you fish and where you hooked the fish, away from the boat, at the end of the cast? A troller on lsc will be catching fish in deeper water than someone who takes a week or two in the summer on lotw. Most will probably say 0-8 that is where most fish. |

I'm talking total depth of the water. Surface to bottom. Not depth in the water column your fishing them in.

Location: MN | Interesting question. I'm spread out a bit, but have the most in 0-8 ft. Tally from last 3 years:
0-8: 23
9-16: 16
17-25: 11
26+: 7 |

Location: Eastern Ontario | Over the past 40 years i have noticed all my muskies have come from wet places. For over 30 of those years fishing 5 minutes from home most of my muskies came casting a suick or spinnerbait into slop in less than 10 feet of water. My biggest came zombie trolling 10 feet down over 40 feet while eating lunch. Since concentrating on the Larry we tend to run the boat between 25 and 30 feet with 2 down rods and one board in shallow with the prop chewers ( aka rocks ) and one out in deeper water and have had good fish on all rods. Find the bait. I have located a couple of places I want to cast this year in spots where I'd be afraid to run the boat but my old shoulders will only take about an hour at sundown. One day Hoser and i were trolling the Larry and got a call from a friend who had just caught two 4 foot fish 97 feet down while downrigging salmon on Georgian Bay. They're everywhere THEY'RE EVERYWHERE.
The fish are never all shallow and never all deep not even during the period of the spawn.

| This depends on 2 factors time of year and type baitfish (in my case yellow perch or alewives". 8' to 50'. If large schools of perch are down at 40' or 50' ski's can be down there. If the perch are off the weeds they're more 8' to 18'. Could be suspended in-between as well. However I'll mention the 2 lakes I fish that contain musky are both deep and often have lots of deeper bait. |

Location: SW Ohio | Our local lake has a feeder creek that has a shallow flat (4'-7') that drops off to over 10'. I catch them on both the flat and running a deep crankbait bouncing it off the bottom in the deeper channel. One side of the channel is a steep bank while the other side is also a 4'-6' that runs out toward open water. Fish are caught regularly from both areas. Since it's a relatively small area (2 football fields end to end) it's easy to make passes (no pun intended) around the whole area throughout the day. Sometimes it looks like a parade of boats.
There's another area that is similar but very narrow. The smaller fish tend to come from the flat while the bigger ones are deeper in the channel.
My choice for poll on my home lake would be:
0-8 feet
9-16 feet |

| June: anywhere from 15-130'
July: usually less than 20'
August: 12' and under but a few lakes 40' and under
September: same as August but more time spent in bull rushes and sand....5' and under
October: primarily 10' |

Location: Illinois | My favorite lake only has 2 areas over 15’ deep and most of the fish have come at the 10’ weedline. So my real answer is most have come from 5-10’ with the 8-10’ being key. |

Location: Elko - Lake Vermilion | For me,... fishing Big V. I would have to say::…. casting... Boat sitting in deeper water (15-20ft) with lure being worked from 3-8 ft. deep... on rocks/bars, ..weed edges.....
Weeds, Very shallow... 2-4 ft.
Trolling....20 Ft.+ Water... Lure running at about 10-15 ft.
Things change from Lake to lake. and time of year . |

Location: Ames, Iowa | I was told recently by an old timer who has since passed that 9 feet of water is the key to be in. I've been doing that more lately, maybe more by coincidence. On Leech most good spots that hold fish just happen to be about 9 feet deep- those being North Bar, Pelican Island, Grand View Flats, Pipe Island, various beaches, cabbage beds, rock piles, and Kabekona Bay rock reefs and weed beds. On Wabedo I'm in a bit deeper water. In all lakes in August I'm seeing fish in the reeds, which is about 5 feet of water. |
