Posts: 2061 Location: Belgium | do you ever break the rythm when retrieving the giant jackpot (or a similar lure)? Why is that?

Posts: 48 Location: Wisconsin | I've never seen on a fish a jackpot. Mostly because my time out fishing has been limited to when bro gets into town. I do that alot, though, and it seems to just -look- better. Adds confidence, for me. I count out the rod tip jerks...1,2,3, 1,2,3,4...Ect. I just make it really random, and add about a second or two pause inbetween these sets, to really kick it out. I love doing that with mantas, aswell. Other times I just fast retrieve. Not sure if I'm helping, but there you go. Edited by Tallywhacker 8/7/2003 5:52 PM

Posts: 364 Location: in the white boat | Not really Dirk, I'll speed up or slow down the retrieve to mix it up, but for the most part I keep the same cadence with the Jackpots.

Posts: 2061 Location: Belgium | me too but I was wondering whether this could trigger following fish that aren't showing themselves

Posts: 3926 | I'm no expert, but I like to occassionally stop the regular retrieve, straighten out the lure, and then skitter it forward a foot, rest a moment, then back to the regular retrieve. Seems that would add some spice for a lazy follow that I can't see.

| What you need is the new Micro-Mini-Cam I'm introducing; just screw it into the bottom of the bait, and you'll see any and all follows, allowing you the fisher peep to adjust your retrieve accordingly. As you can tell, I am near a state of comotocity, and have no idea of what I am saying... | |||

Posts: 196 | I vary the retrieve a lot when fishing the jackpot often in the same cast. I may stop it and have it pop with little forward motion in good looking areas and I also do this about 20 feet from the boat to try to trigger a follower. I have had 2 fish in the last 2 years that hit while I was reaching back to steer the trolling motor.

Posts: 5 Location: Tomah, WI | I fish the jackpot a lot. In fact probably more than anthing else. I normally try to stay in a grooved pattern unless I have a fish following and I am getting it close to the boat. One tip I can offer is that slow is good. Since I have slown this thing down I have seen and caught more fish. I got a 51" in July and I truly believe that had I been working it as fast as I used to I would not have gotten this fish. Make it an easy meal.

Posts: 196 | Interesting for sure...I have had the best luck fishing the jackpot fast but then again I don't have a 50+ to show for it!

Posts: 32958 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | I work an Undertaker like a Jackpot, and have very good success with broken speed patterns. If the fish ae moving, they WILL hit that thing worked that way. The trick is keeping them stuck when they rocket out of the water or do the surface shake and bake.

Posts: 2061 Location: Belgium | worrall, what do you do when the fish jumps? I tend to lower the rod to the water surface to try and keep it down
