Posts: 427 | I am going to pick up a reel and put it on a 9ft TI MH. Will be used for small to medium cranks and bucktails up to 8s. I am having a hard time deciding on which one to get. I am thinking about a revo toro 60, okuma komodo, or quantum exo 300. Which would you recommend and what speed. Thanks in advance for the help.

Posts: 357 Location: Western U.P. | The choices you've mentioned are all solid reels. Try each one on a rod (if you live by a store with a good reel selection), and see which one feels/fits best. I tend to go with a little faster gear for smaller bait set-ups. Have an NaCl 50HS on a 8.5' MH that gets used a lot. For casting small/med baits, I like the way 50's balance in my hand, and on the rod.

Posts: 427 | I would love to but there is nowhere close that carries them. Might just wait until the Chicago show because I probably won't be throwing much small stuff before then.

Location: SE Wisconsin | A couple friends in my local area turned me on to the Shimano Curado 300EJ, which I have been extremely happy with. Handles small bucktails extremely well, and does an outstanding job on the big stuff, too. I burned through all of my NACL's because I'm one of those who violently rips rubber and I tend to hang on to the handle as leverage unknowingly until my handles start to loosen up and the threading starts stripping... So, try the 300EJ, it's a tiny reel, looks pretty and works like a Cummings diesel engine!

Posts: 300 Location: Minocqua, WI | Rather the EXO, I'd recommend considering the Iron 300 instead w the power handle. I have both and comparing the two Iron seems built tougher and balances better on the heavier rods. I toss everything but big blades with it. I need to fish my EXO 300 with a 7 and a half foot bass rod in order to feel any normalcy (I fish it with cranks and suicks).

Posts: 78 | muskybites - 12/11/2015 7:59 AM The Abu's are nice reels. But they are no Curado. Can't speak for the rest as I have never used them. But IMHO Shimano is the benchmark for musky reels period. I own 5 Curados and likely will never buy anything else. The one lure they struggle with are large bladed bucktailss, but I have a couple of old Calcutta TE's to handle the big baits. Too bad they stopped manufacturing those... Honestly, having fished every single one of the latest offerings the Revo Toro Beast is the Class of the bunch. Greatly superior to a Curado in every regard, feature by feature. Better cast control. Better gears. Better drag. Better casting. More handle options. More cranking power. regards

Posts: 427 | After some more research I am going with the revo toro S. Gonna wait until the Chicago show show I can handle before I buy. Beast was a little to steep.

Posts: 1660 Location: central Wisconsin | Check pricing before deciding on the S. I stopped in a tackle store a couple weeks ago to get a hands on feel for the reels. The 50 series Beast felt good to me so the owner asked me what he had to do to sell one. My reply was you have to do better on price, I can buy that Revo Toro Beast for $299 all day long on Ebay. He pulled out a laptop looked it up and said, I can match that. Paid him cash so he could avoid the 3% credit card fees, had him wind line on it and another reel, bought some baits and left happy with the price I got

Posts: 865 | One More you forgot John you failed to mention Twice the Price.... I am a Beast fan, I have one and I actually like the Revo Toro S Series Better...and they are $190 AWESOME REEL.....Hard to Beat as it has all the things above that John Mentioned and Half the price........ Only comes w/paddle Handle which is fine, and you can get a power if wanted

Posts: 865 | That 9' TI rod is a beauty all right but you may want to put the reel your thinking about on it first...Sometimes the reels are too small for the stick, just don't feel right.. I think a Curado would be a mismatch and too small but thats JMO.....

Gonna wait until the Chicago show show I can handle before I buy. Beast was a little to steep. Excellent choice I just received mine in the mail, it is definitely narrower then my Nacl which I like. It sits up higher off the rod, it is "taller." Havnt used it yet obviously but i like it so far. And if it is anything like the 5 gear NACL, it will be one smooth, well rounded bomb proof reel...

Posts: 865 | 60/61 Series is the Reel..... the 50/51 series are a Few Dollars Cheaper but the line Retreive per turn on a cast is a lot less approx 24-25" per turn There's a dozen of those reels with that speed ......Nice to get 27 -29" on a big geared reel...Both are Fine reels....

Any features from the Beast that you want can be added by simply swapping the parts etc. In the final analysis, all of the additional features (handles etc) of the Beast run about $100 more than the Toro S. Pretty good value but the Toro S is there to save a little money.
