Never ever have jigged for muskies so i'm a rookie.. I fish a lot of dams and spillways were bulldawgs are my best friend because that's the only thing I can get to stay down far enough in the water column.. Im fishing dams where I need to get baits 7-20 feet deep.. Some are verticle presentations but others I have to cast to. Would a bondy work for me? Will a 8' TI XH with a cardiff 400a hold up to jigging these? What size should I be looking for? Thanks for the help!!

Sounds like a prime spot and fishing near the dams is popular especially late in the year where bait will collect. Our website has multiple videos including a 10 minute instructional vid that shows how to jig. Might be very helpful to help you come up with ideas on how you can employ the baits on your lake before you go out and spend the money. Thanks and good luck, Jon www.bondybait.com

IMO the 8' TI XH is too stiff & doesn't do a good job of keeping the fish pinned. I used my 9' TI XH one year jigging Bondy Baits & lost far more fish than I landed due to the stiff rod pulling the baits out of the fish's mouth. I currently use a 8'6" Okuma Heavy & I've landed more than 75% of the fish I had hooked up. In the past I had used my 9' TI MH & 8' Black River heavy but I like the okuma the best of all the rods I used for jigging because it's a lot lighter & I don't get worn out from jigging all day.

As for the Cardiff 400a I can't say if it will hold up. A reel with dual anti-reverse is best to use for vertical jigging. Fishing near a dams & spillways you are sure to have lots of snags & those can blow out the anti-reverse if you're not careful. I blew out the anti-reverse on a Abu C4 on the 3rd trip with it on a fish that just about broke my arm when it hit.

I run a TI 8' XH for my jigging setup. I've got it paired with an Abu Garcia Alphamar, with a 27lb drag. I absolutely love this combo. It has worked great for me for the last 2 years I've been running it.

Sounds like a great place to give a Bondy a try! Lock that drag down, have patience with the presentation, and enjoy a whole new experience of catching these fish!

I run 8'6" Toothtamer in Heavy, or extra heavy.... perfect rod for the Bondy's. Original Bondy for jigging (or the Magnum) and verticle presentations. I really like the Jr. for a casting presentation.....very Nice!! One tip for casting, if you need a slower drop, or need it to run a bit higher (other than speeding things up), I have increased the blade size on the back - simply to increase the drag. That works well in certain situations. good baits.

What depths do the Jr's with a bigger blade go?

I can work it in about 3 feet of water with a steady retrieve...the weight is still there for a quick drop, so with a pull-pause retreive it is down around 5 to 6 feet.

Can a St. Croix LipStick handel that jigging Job? Or is that rod to soft for setting the hook?

Never used that rod but my personal choice is for at least 8ft and heavy duty with lots of backbone.

How shallow of water have you used the bondy bait for vertical jigging. I fish a lot of back water river channels and some of them are 7ft at the deepest. Would this be to shallow?

I agree the TI XH is a very stiff rod. The TI XXH loads up better and does a better job at everything.

7 ft deep? All depends on water clarity...I personally don't go any shallower around here than 12-14 ft because that is where the weed line is in most places...
