Posts: 439 Location: Lake of the Woods, Morson, Ontario | The month started with a weather change from super hot to quite chilly and a strong thunder boom in the mix as well. Expecting a tough bite and lazy action for the Labour Day weekend, but fish were active and the big girls came out eating to start the month. Fish going 47, 49, 49 and 54 inches were boated to start the month! Pics are on the facebook page for those interested in the 49 and 54 inchers on back to back days by the same young angler. Great stuff, indeed! Topwaters and crankbaits on rock were the most successful, but there have been a few fish spotted in weeds as well. September often seems to have fish back in the weeds for short periods so you will want to check the weed beds that you come across from time to time when things aren't snapping on the rocks (or even when they are.) Cool mornings, warming days and short evenings will be on the agenda. One of my fave times to be on the water (not that I can get on the water in September) because of decreased traffic with kids back in school and summer vacations wrapped up along with changing leaves making it even more gorgeous on the lake. Water temps started the month below 69 on the surface in the mornings but would warm up some throughout the day. Bloom has been remarkably absent, still, into the fall period. There will be times and portions of the lake that green up, but mostly we are seeing some stained water that is much more manageable than an average year. Good luck to all on the water this month. Looking forward to hearing how you do when you come up to our little slice of muskie heaven here in the Sabaskong area. Edited by MyliesPlace(Justin) 9/5/2013 8:05 AM

Posts: 439 Location: Lake of the Woods, Morson, Ontario | Another pretty good week of on the water action in the Morson area. A few slower days, but reasonably stable weather with a couple cloudy days and one front that didn't stay too long gave up periods of good action. Several fish in the 46, 47 and 48 inch class reported this week, plus a few bigger girls that got away. Overall, numbers of big fish still quite good considering the drop in the number of people reporting in as the season goes on. Water clarity and temps still holding out. Water temps in and around 70 most places. Water clarity still better than average. Mostly rocks (points, saddles, boulders) giving up action, but some nice fish in some weed beds as well. Big bucktails working the best for our guests this week, but some suicks and spinner baits still getting fish to move as well. Not many muskie anglers in camp for the next couple weeks as the crappie and walleye crowd will take over for awhile. Hope to talk to a few people here and there to get some current info. I'm not on the water again til next month. Good luck to all those fishing. J-Man

Posts: 656 Location: Forest Lake, Mn. | I've been spending a lot of time with Google Earth and looking at the area. I've found some great looking spots that I never fished in past years when I've been up to the area. It is amazing what the satellite image revels about fishing spots. I don't know when I'm going to get up there again but someday, and when I do I've got some new, to me, waters to pound out west of your place.

Posts: 439 Location: Lake of the Woods, Morson, Ontario | I LOVE seeing a fish on a spot that is new to me or a spot that I've never seen one before. Been exploring new stuff as much as I can when I don't have someone with me that I'm trying to put on a fish. Some spots brand new to me, others people have told me they have seen fish or spots I thought should hold fish and haven't seen one yet. The better than average water clarity this year helped that continue later into the summer when sometimes it's tough to get yourself into new (especially rock spots) when you can't see the lay of the land very well. Hope you bag one or two biggies with some of your off the water research. Let us know how you make it whenever you do get back up on the water here. Cheers. J-Man

Posts: 257 Location: Valpo IN | Were back from a week trip to Mylies ( Operation Muskies Auction winner). First time ever to LOW Justin will help you mark your map. If you want a chance at some nice fish daily head up there. I had my fish of my dreams caught just outside of Mylies resort. Wife had trouble with the net job but that's fine she did her best for the situation. I came home with a half tank gas still in the boat - you don't even have to fish far from the resort. We fished for everything - small mouth are like footballs. Justin and his mom run a great resort very clean and comfy my wife enjoyed it also. Justin all of us in the group want to thank you and your mother for the generosity in offering this trip. cya next September Dave

Posts: 439 Location: Lake of the Woods, Morson, Ontario | It was GREAT having you and your crew hang out with us last week, Dave. Very glad you made the trip and got your feet wet on LOTW. Definitely plenty of spots left to fish in coming years, huh? Heartbreaker losing that biggie, but you will be back for another round. Have a great rest of the fishing season down home and we'll look forward to hearing from you when you are ready to set something up for 2014. Cheers. J-Man

Posts: 439 Location: Lake of the Woods, Morson, Ontario | Finally have a muskie boat in camp again. Jerry Sondag is back for the last round of chasing LOTW biggies and they promptly put a really big 45 and also a 46 in the boat for the first half day. Had one more fish landed and a couple biters. Everything was snapping yesterday. Gliders & rocks were the ticket. One fish hit a Dadson bucktail but head shook over the shallow part of the rock spine and threw the bait. Cloudy with strong south winds yesterday..same for today, but with less wind velocity. possible front coming in overnight. Edited by MyliesPlace(Justin) 9/18/2013 10:40 AM

Posts: 439 Location: Lake of the Woods, Morson, Ontario | Have no had anyone in camp casting since Sondag and friend lit it up for 2 full days and two half days with 12 fish...all over 40 inches, including 47, 48, 512 and 54 inchers. Water temps 61 at the dock on morning of Sept 27 and 64ish out on the basin water. Water clarity still quite good for average this time of year. Great time to be on the water. Not many people out there and the colours are starting to show up. GET YOUR BUTT UP TO "THE WOODS." Trolling time is coming!

Posts: 439 Location: Lake of the Woods, Morson, Ontario | No muskie hunters around to report in, but water temps are at 58 this morning at the dock. some colder overnight air temps through the weekend before warming back up a bit Monday. 14 day trends shows above normal overnight temps for most of the 14 days except this weekend and a couple days around Oct 13/14. It's shaping up to be a great fall for fishing Lake of the Woods!!
