Posts: 20 | Was wondering if anyone could help me with hook sizes for certain lures. I only have a few and would like to order some more but not sure what size each lure uses. Here are the lures that I would like to buy extra hooks for. Bulldawgs (pounder and mag) DC10's, phantoms (7.5 inch) and can I use the same size hooks for grandmas, jakes, kriscos, and big game tackle crankbaits. Also topwaters such as top raiders, pacemakers, whopper plopper. Thanks for your help in advance I know its a lot but I cant find them and I don't live anywhere close to a store that would carry them so have to do all of my buying online and don't wanna buy the wrong ones.

Posts: 2015 | Pounders 8/0 Mags 7/0 10's 7/0 - glide baits I prefer to put the exact same hooks on. I believe a 7.5" phantom is a 3/0 round bend 9" grandma, 10"Jakes and Kriscos you will want 5/0...get lots of 5/0 they fit many baits including Topraiders. I use Mustad 3551 hooks in size 5/0, 7/0 and 8/0 for most of my hook replacement,,, but there are a lot of good hooks out there .....hooks are fairly cheap I'd get 25 of each size 3/0 - 8/0 and have a "hook box" . It should last you for years and you can replace the sizes easily as you run low.

Posts: 222 Location: c.wis | shortys hooks, captain hooks, anyof the lurespartoneline type places- check out the mustad 35656 in the 3/0 it has a short shank wide gap with a gap that the same as a 5/0- phantoms use the 35656's in 2/0-3/0 sz- and 99% of the bucktails that need larger hooks are 7/8/0 3551 mustads, you can get 100 hooks for 20.00-split with some buddies and you got a "hook box"

Location: Ohio | When changing hooks on gliders especially custom wood ones keep the weight the same, I weight all of my gliders for the hooks that's on them new different weights will change the action. When you go with smaller hooks on twitch baits it may make them run shallower or blow out. Be careful when changing hook sizes and styles.

Back when I still used suckers I made some quick strike rigs with smaller hooks than (2/0 or 3/0 if I remember correctly) and had really good luck with hookups.

In live baiting it can be alot better with smaller hooks, look att the britts (i'm sorry for this) they are the most advanced live/deadbait fisherman in the world and they often use size 4-6 hooks on big baits (12-16"). Downsizing to a size 1-1/0 hooks (just get a 4x or 6x strong and you'll be fine) will probably help you guys hook alot more while suckering.
