Hey All,

I was wondering if someone can offer insight into what's happening in the world of Bump Boards?

I've seen some older posts but it appears that things may have changed. For example, it does not appear that Dunwright is presently making Bump Boards. I also have noticed that Rollie & Helen's offer their own brand as well as the Muskie Bumper versions.

Is MuskyLink still building them?

Weren't there some offered by one or more musky clubs?

Who is still building them?
Which float?
Which are the most durable?
Any difference in accuracy of measurement?
Is there one that is clearly better than the rest?

Cant go wrong with Muskie Bumper. They also make the boards for Rollies. I know there are some other compaines are starting to copy the original Muskie Bumpers design. Brandon Shepered (Musky Link) also builds a nice one as well.
Which float?
Both
Which are the most durable?
Ive only used the Muskie bumper and I can beat my kids with it and it still measures fish.
Any difference in accuracy of measurement?
Again Muskie bumper is dead on and Im pretty sure there are a few Tournaments that use them as the official measuring boards.
Is there one that is clearly better than the rest?
Muskie Bumper uses a integrated hinge system with no metal that will touch the fish. A nice carry handle, and can be custom made to your specs. The wide versions are nice for keeping the whole fish off the carpet or metal in your boat.

Check out www.tstackle.com saw them at the Milwaukee show and they seem pretty nice. They even put a length, girth, weight chart right on the board.

I like the Musky Bumpers as well.

Not to steal the thread or anything, but does anyone know where to get a tape to put on a do-it-yourself board? 60" max preferrably.

Go to any sewing supply store. They will have a tailor's measuring tape.

I did exactly this with a piece of lexan bent at 90 degrees, a role of StikArounds and a tailor's tape... voila! I had my bump board. Right?

Well, the StikArounds began to peal up at the ends so I used some epoxy to hold it in place. Over time, cold weather / hot weather / cold weather / hot weather, that, too, began to come up. Then due to hot / cold again, I noticed that the measuring tape began to warp. This was probably caused by the fact that it was rubber in nature. The StikArounds sticky also began to seep out in spots.

The above said, I now have a homemade bump board with stick residue in spots and a measure tape that is no longer THAT accurate. I have put down some clear tape as a temporary fix for the sticky residue but, of course, one can't expect that to hold up.

This is why I'm looking to spend a little extra money to get a good one.

Between the lexan, the tape, the StikArounds and the guy I bought the lexan from who also bent it at 90 degrees, I'd say I have about $30 in it plus whatever time I spent fiddling with it.

+1 for muskie bumper... Tony was great to deal with, and I think he shipped before even receiving my check. I even asked for an additional 30" tape that was visible when the board was folded in the stow position and he obliged with no extra charge. Highly recommended for what my opinions worth, which some say isn't much!!!

If you're interested in saving money you might want to try building your own. Go to a sign company and ask if they carry Sintra. Sintra in pretty much the same material MuskieBumper and MuskyLink use. It's a PVC material and it's very bouyant. This way you can make it to your specifications and probably save some money. The sign company can also make a sticker for you measurements as well. I made mine this way and other than the "prettiness" factor of a commercial board, it is just as good.
